HELLO! My name is Ashley P. I am 30 years old, and I live in Marietta Georgia. Let me tell you a little bit about myself, my work experience, and my education history, and hopefully you will then consider me as your future Braille tutor!
I grew up visually impaired since birth. I began learning Braille myself when I started school. I am not only an alumni of the Cobb County School District here in Georgia, but I am also now working there, doing the same work that others used to do for me when I was a kid.
My journey working with blind students (and some adults) began in 2011, when I took a job at the Center for the Visually Impaired in Atlanta. I worked there from 2011-2019 in the after school program and as a summer camp counselor. I taught K-12 kids of all ages skills such as Braille, computer skills, assistive technology, and even mixed martial arts.
Since starting that job in 2011, I have obtained my Paraprofessional certification, as well as my UEB (Unified English Braille) certification. I am also still currently working on my certification as a Braille Transcriber.
Since July of 2018, I have been working for the Cobb County School District as a Braille Clerk, adapting school work for blind/low vision high school students. I am also currently tutoring others in Braille as they reach out to me.
As I said before, I have been visually impaired since birth, so I am very understanding in what it is like to be visually impaired. However, I am also very encouraging when it comes to living with, dealing with, and accepting your visual impairment. This, along with my exceptional experience and education, I believe, would make me an excellent Braille tutoring candidate for you or your child.
I do work with both kids and adults, so if you are interested in either learning Braille/Nemeth for the first time, or simply sharpening up your Braille/Nemeth skills, please feel free to reach out to me at any time, and we can definitely work something out! I can't wait to hear from you! :)
