I am a PhD candidate in art history at the University of Florida. I have just returned to the U.S. after 15 months of fieldwork in Mozambique. My research deals with Mozambican artists who use recycled materials in the creation of their art. I received funding for my dissertation research from a Fulbright-Hays DDRA grant. I have had several years experience teaching art history in a university setting, at large public universities (University of Florida and Buffalo State College), small liberal arts colleges (Canisius College, Buffalo, NY), and at a medium security prison (Wyoming Correctional Facility, Attica, NY). Each year I have been involved with the annual AP art history reading since 2003. I began as a reader and have been promoted to the task of Table Leader, which includes overseeing the readers, and being exposed to the test development committee's decisions on specific questions and their viability to reflect the changing face of AP art history in high schools and colleges. Since I will be writing my dissertation, I thought that tutoring would provide me with an excellent opportunity to share my broad knowledge and experiences with art history to students preparing for the AP art history exam and taking courses in college and graduate school. I believe my past teaching experience, research, and AP involvement qualify me as an excellent candidate as a successful art history tutor.

I am a PhD candidate in Art History at the University of Florida. I am also currently a Research Fellow at the Centre for Conflict Studies. My dissertation research focuses on Mozambican artists who use recycled materials as media, including artists involved with the Transforming weapons into plows project that recycles decommissioned weapons from Mozambique's past wars. I began attending UF in 2006, when I received a prestigious merit based Alumni Fellowship that paid my tuition, fees, and provided me with a stipend. While at UF I taught art history classes which included Global Visual Culture, Non-Western Art, and African Popular Culture. While at UF, I also have teaching assistant experience, for the art history surveys 1 and 2. Prior to my acceptance at UF, I was an adjunct professor of art history at several different types of institutions of higher education, with extremely varied student populations. I taught at large public institutions such as the University of Florida and Buffalo State College; a small liberal arts college (Canisius College, Buffalo, NY); as well as a medium security prison (Wyoming Correctional Facility, Attica, NY). As an adjunct professor I taught many diverse art history courses, including survey 1 and 2, Non-Western art, women and art, the age of Monet, African-American art in Context, USA Art, Renaissance and Mannerist Art, 20th century art, and contemporary art. I discovered that teaching these many different types of students was a positive challenge for me, compelling me to adapt my teaching for diverse student populations. I have adopted this philosophy as I have adapted my teaching to tutoring now as I complete my dissertation. I look forward to working with students in all areas of art history, as I have experiences in teaching all historical aspects of art history.
