I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Master of Science in Environmental Science. My education, coupled with professional roles as a lead field ecologist and time spent in the Forest Service, has provided me with a rich blend of theoretical and practical expertise. Additionally, I'm CPR/First Aid certified, further equipping me to ensure safety in various environments.

My four years as a lead field ecologist allowed me to hone my teaching skills, emphasizing kindness, patience, and hands-on learning through activities and real-life experiences. This approach extended to my time with the Forest Service, where I developed and presented interpretive talks, walks, environmental education lessons, and sustainability outreach programs. My passion for teaching also translated into 14 years of swim coaching, employing similar methods to engage and educate swimmers of various ages and abilities.

I have a diverse teaching background that includes training young professionals in the field of ecology, leading multi-aged groups through interpretive talks and tours in the Forest Service, and coaching swimmers from toddlers to adults. In the Forest Service, I presented daily guided tours of historic mansions and gardens and interpreted Gifford Pinchot's contributions to the American conservation movement. I also directed conservation education programs for school groups and assisted with special events and visitor information services. My swim teaching spans 14 years and includes both private and group lessons, as well as coaching for a YMCA team. My ten years of lifeguarding experience adds an extra layer of safety assurance, showcasing my commitment to creating a secure and supportive learning environment.

Swimming

Swimming has been my life's passion since the age of 8, leading me through a journey from local competitions to the Junior Olympics, Nationals, and Division 1 college swimming. My experiences have not only shaped me as an athlete, but instilled values of dedication, discipline, and determination. Beyond competing, I have enjoyed sharing my passion through coaching, teaching beginners to national-level swimmers, and attending intensive stroke clinics to continually refine my skills. Now, as an ecologist who still deeply misses the swimming world, I offer you not just a swim instructor, but a devoted mentor who is eager to support your individual journey in swimming, building your skills, confidence, and love for the sport.
