I have been teaching, coaching, providing intervention, and nurturing learners ages Kindergarten through 12th grade for over 20 years. I have a Bachelor of arts in Communication from the University of Texas at Arlington, and five teaching certificates: K-12 Special Education, English 4-8, English 8-12, English as a second Language, and Early Childhood through Sixth grade Generalist. I provide proofreading / editing services as well and coach beginning teachers on classroom management and teaching techniques.

What makes me an exceptional tutor is that I have dedication and a love for passing on an educational legacy to the next generation of both students and teachers. I focus on incorporating all learning styles in my work with students to meet the needs of those who are Auditory Learners, Visual Learners, Reading and Writing Learners, and Kinesthetic Learners. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon to begin your journey in finding your academic potential and becoming the best version of yourself.

Struggling in a subject area? Needing help with focus? I have solutions to challenges that can help you be the best version of yourself! I have taught all grades during my 20+ years in Education, including 10 years at the elementary level. I taught 4th grade Self-Contained, Team-Teaching, and Departmental Teaching for: Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science, and cursive. I was a 4th grade writing teacher preparing the students for the state assessment which included two 26-line essays in the "Personal Narrative" and "Expository" genres. In addition, I taught 2nd grade Self-Contained (All subjects). I also taught "Gifted and Talented" students for two years, grades K-6th grade. I home-schooled my oldest son for Kindergarten. With a Communications degree, I am an expert in revising and editing manuscripts in both the educational field and in the corporate business arena, having been the Editor of two corporate publications. I have five teaching certificates: K-12 Special Education, English 4-8, English 8-12, English as a second Language, and Early Childhood through Sixth grade Generalist.

Research shows writing in cursive: 1. provides a flow of thought, 2. helps you focus, 3. gets our entire brain working, 4. helps us retain more information, 5. improves motor control, and 6. helps you become a better speller! All of these things can help you become smarter and a better student!* (According to the article "The case for Cursive" 6 Reasons Why Cursive is Good for your Brain from HowLifeUnfolds.com). Let me help you become the best version of yourself by learning Cursive. Most schools are not teaching cursive or are putting this skill on the back-burner. Let me help you gain this important skill. I have over 20 years experience in education, with 10 years experience in elementary education. I find that many students do not have an appropriate pencil grip, nor are learning the basics of handwriting in school. I use a variety of programs and techniques including "Handwriting without Tears."
Homeschool,

Homeschool

I had the blessing and opportunity to home school my oldest son. He learned to read before the age of 4. During his home schooled Kindergarten year, he wrote over 20 books and completed other advanced projects. I was part of a home schooling group during that time and am familiar with homeschooling curriculum. I was also part of a school that was a proponent of "Parent-Based Education." This school was a two and three-day a week enrichment program. It was an la carte system to come along side homeschooling parents to provide socialization and assignments that they could work on at home with their students. Most recently, I taught Gifted and Talented students in grades K - 6, creating curriculum and STEAM projects for the students.
Spelling,

Spelling

I am intrigued by words and use a Thesaurus frequently. I have helped students study for the UIL spelling Bee in my independent school district. I have taught spelling rules to elementary students and devised a way to test students online to see their responses simultaneously in the classroom. This would come in handy to teach virtual spelling techniques.

Test Preparation

STAAR,

STAAR

The STAAR test or "State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness" replaced the state's former TAKS "Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills" during my 20+ years in Education. I was a successful math and reading interventionist for 3rd-5th grade for those who had gaps in their learning. I was also a 2nd grade summer interventionist in math to help those struggling with gaps achieve on-level success to move forward to be ready for the 3rd grade math test.
TAKS

TAKS

As an educator, I have spent years prepping students for the TAKS test, now the STAAR test, during my 20 years as an educator. I have a great deal of experience in intervention and preparation techniques in grades K-6 to aid students for the STAAR test in reading, math, science, writing. One thing students need is confidence and test-taking skills that will build that confidence. I have aided students throughout the years at the High School, Middle School, and Elementary level with this through direct teaching, one-on-one intervention, and remediation to prepare for the STAAR test.
