I have received a B.S. in metallurgical and materials engineering from Colorado School of Mines. The curriculum was heavy in mathematics, physics, and chemistry for that major. I took Calculus 1-3, differential equations, and Statistics of manufacturing. My science courses started with two classes in general chemistry and physics. The topics of those classes ranged from the fundamentals of atomic theory to titration reactions for chemistry. For the calculus-based physics classes, the topics ranged from kinematics to electrical inductance. I have taken algebra-based AP physics course in high school as well. I have also gained my teaching certificate in the state of Vermont where I am certified in math and science for grades 7-12.

I am going on my third year of teaching high school math and science. My academic and work experience as an engineer has provided me with a wide range of real-life examples to contextualize why these subjects are important. I try to keep my class as story-based as possible so there is always a clear objective. For example, my chemistry course covered the mole subject by examining the 1982 contamination of Tylenol. The story was framed as a murder mystery to investigate if the victim's mother killed her daughter. The class went on an investigation utilizing their conversions to moles to grams and to particle count to determine if the mother killed the daughter. In the end, it was discovered there were foreign contaminants in the pills which we discovered through mass spectrometry data. This story-based method was extremely successful with a 90% proficiency rate for that class of 24 students. The high school I am employed at has time devoted each day for 1 on 1 student teacher tutoring to help those who might have missed a day or need extra assistance. These are basically 45-minute tutoring blocks every day for a variety of students across a range of subjects. For the reasons above, I believe I am a suitable candidate for tutoring with Wyzant.
