My degree was a double major in English Literature and Performing Arts, with a minor in Social Sciences. I earned an MFA in Theatre Directing. I have written numerous plays for children, all of which have been performed. I began my career as the Performing Arts Director for the Oklahoma Arts Council, and, after Graduate School, worked as a Theatre Director in the San Francisco Bay area, where I won an award for directing Equity Waiver Theatre. Before retiring, I spent many years working in the school system, first as a Substitute teacher in Middle and High School, and then as a paraprofessional in the schools, completing my tenure in Elementary education. In my capacity as an educator, I started several after- school arts programs, and taught drama and performance for the Ocean Pines Community.

My tutoring experience has spanned several decades, where I specialized in English and Language Arts for all age groups, but primarily concentrating on High School English and test-taking, including SAT preparation. I also was a Home Hospital teacher for seven years. In addition, I have coached young people and adults in Public Speaking and Debate. I have also taught and tutored special needs students, and created theatrical programs for my local Arts Council. I have found that the ability to communicate in verbal and artistic ways, and to communicate the ability to comprehend complex literature and to write cohesively and expressively are tremendous assets in developing young minds and in helping to retrain the older mind. While I am not a certified teacher, I have been recruited to help teach communication methods to teachers. My additional graduate training and rich life experience is a gift.

I am well-read, and a prolific writer. My skills in public speaking and training actors are essential assets. It is imperative to always increase one's working vocabulary, and to learn the confidence to communicate with people, particularly in today's competitive world. Writing essays for c

Knowledgeable and patient

Abby was able to get a lot of her memoir done - so she is super happy with her progress! We hope to continue with sessions to fine tune her essay/memoir next week. Great English/writing tutor.

Enjoyed the session

I enjoyed speaking with Sandy. We had a nice discovery call and Sandy was able identify the root of my issue and the best approach. She gave me a homework assignment that we'll review and discuss in the next session.

My Speech titled "Grandma's farm"

Sandy was teaching me how to have good intonation on my speech and good eye contact. She seems like a very well educated person. And most of all very kind and patient. I am looking forward to my next class with her.

Patient and caring person

She helped my daughter express her love of arts and made her first session very comfortable. My daughter needs help with writing skills which is very difficult to assess on a first visit. Sandy brought out different ways that she can incorporate that from my daughter

Professional, Knowledgeable, & Patient

My tutoring session went very well. I was pleased with all of the tips and personalized information given to help my specific needs. Sandy went step by step through my homework and made it seem easy. She was great and patient. Didn’t make me feel like she had to move onto the next person. She made the session all about me and what I needed to accomplish. I received an A on my assignment. Thank you so much, Sandy!!!

Very patient and helpful

My 3rd grader really struggles with attention and very reluctant to write. Sandy has been very patient and helpful with getting her to write her thoughts. I can tell you it hasn’t been easy. I have seen progress and more confidence in my daughter’s writing since we’ve started although it will take some time. We are pleased with her service and professionalism.

Sandy is knowledgeable and patient

I have work with other tutors before while talking with them, I felt like turning off the computer and finding another tutor. Sandy was different, she took her time to find out my needs.
