I have been teaching English for the past nine years and have experience with all age ranges. I earned my BA degree in American Literature from Truman State University. While in undergrad, I took many classes on applied linguistics and teaching English as a Second Language. I decided that I would move abroad to teach after graduation. I moved to Hiroshima, Japan and taught English at a private conversation school for two years. After two years of teaching in Hiroshima, I joined the United States Peace Corps and moved to southwest China. I lived and worked at a teachers' university in a small city. I came back to the United States during the Covid pandemic and enrolled in a master's program at American University in International Affairs. I remain engaged with teaching English in a volunteer capacity at an organization in Washington, DC.
Though my professional background is in teaching English language learners from foreign countries, I have extensive writing and proofreading experience from my undergraduate and graduate school degrees. I often edit and proofread colleagues' essays and help them to determine the most impactful elements of their writing and accentuate them. I am happy to tutor any subject involving reading, writing, or literature. I am also fluent in Mandarin Chinese (I have studied since 2018 in both China and Taiwan) and conversational in Japanese and am willing to provide students with assistance in both these languages.
