As the founder and owner of a media and publishing company, I'm constantly seeking to identify, mentor, and promote emerging voices. In addition to writing and publishing best-selling, award-winning novels, my works of short fiction and poetry appear in several popular anthologies. I also narrate audiobooks of poetry and prose, and am active within the Kidlit community as faculty for various writing workshops and conferences.

Prior to founding my publishing company, I worked as the Managing Director of an educational/tutoring center, where I created and implemented programs and curriculum for creative writing. I'm passionate about helping learners develop their creative voice, thereby enabling them to express themselves through writing. I also regularly support students of all ages with their academic writing across a variety of subjects including reading comprehension and analysis, English as a second language, gender studies, philosophy, psychology, film, history, literature, and art history. Additionally, I support writing, editing, and revision of essays/personal statements for both undergraduate and graduate school applicants with a 100% success rate, including honors and scholarship applications. I'm also an experienced speech writer. My students regularly win creative writing and speech contests.

I received a degree in Humanities with an emphasis in English literature and art history from Brigham Young University in 1995. I have experience working within the public school system as both a Spec Ed teacher for grades K through 5, and as a substitute teacher, grades K through 12.

One of the most common remarks I hear from both academic and creative writing students is that they aren't "good" at writing. Let me change your mind and give you the skills, confidence, and motivation you need to be a successful writer. All ages welcome!

Great writing coach!

Jane worked with my 10-year-old daughter on her creative writing. Jane is a seasoned writer and instructor who brings a ton of experience and empathy to her sessions. She worked very interactively with my daughter, and was able to strike the right balance between encouragement and constructive criticism. In my daughter's exact words "she's really nice... and I'm learning a lot of things about writing that I didn't know at all... which is a lot of fun!"

Wonderful, passionate, and encouraging tutor!

She went above and beyond, and it's obvious that she cares about what she does. She put a lot of passion and effort into editing my poems and then thoroughly discussed those edits with me as we dissected my writing. The whole time, she was very encouraging and made plently of constructive suggestions, showing me the possible routes I could go; she definitely has a lot of expertise, but also helped guide me to find my own creative voice. Overall, it was amazing getting to work with her, and I've inspired and motivated to keep writing ever since.

Skilled Published Tutor for Creative Writing

My 16 year old daughter has had creative writing ideas for many years. She would often get stuck in certain places and then move on to new story lines. So she found Jane on Wyzant. She is one of the only tutors who have already published her own YA novels. They have been meeting once a week for over a month now and my daughter has been thrilled with the help and advice she has been getting from Jane. Jane's weekly summary on their tutoring sessions have been specific on what they are working on and she really understands what my daughter is aiming for. If you are interested in creative writing and possibly becoming a published author, Jane is the one you want to work with. We will continue working with her after the holiday break!

Wonderful First Lesson

We just finished our first lesson with Jane. Very nice experience of getting introduced to basic elements of creative writing. We will continue with Jane's lesson and hopefully my girls will have their own book one day.

Excellent teacher/coach.

In the two sessions I’ve had with Jane, I have learned more than I have from any other teacher in my life, in part because she has made everything specific to my own natural skillset. She’s compassionate and understanding and great at explaining things so I know what she means and what she wants me to alter without feeling as if I’ve done something wrong. She simply encourages growth and walks you through everything with so much patience. Jane is also great about knowing that everyone’s path is different and she doesn’t try to make your journey mimic anyone else’s. My writing has improved greatly and I have no one to thank but Jane. I seriously cannot say enough good things about her.

Excellent and Outstanding Tutor

If I was asked to describe Jane in one word, I would say 'perfect'! She is a 'miracle worker' She is excellent and outstanding at listening to and interpreting what a student means to say. She sees what thoughts are there and helps the student articulate them better. And she is AMAZING at organizing said thoughts! She is the best!

empathetic tutor

I actually had a mild panic attack at first because I was nervous. Jane was patient while I got myself grounded, and that helped a lot. She also went our of her way to try different angles to see what might work for me. I think I will keep working with this tutor in the future.

Jane is a WRITER!

Meaningful, creative, and smart-- to the point insights on my manuscript and writing in general-- my mind exploded with ideas with new ideas for revisions and future works- and Jane lit the fuse! Definitely time well invested!

Great writing mentor

So far my daughter is really enjoying her writing lessons. Jane is already challenging her to improve and think more like an author. Jane is very passionate about the process and is very encouraging and constructive in lessons.
