I tutored ages 6-12.I chose to tutor reading and math. The reason I chose to tutor these subjects because I believe that these subjects are the key to a successful future. Each student should be equipped with the necessary reading and math skills to help them to be successful adults. Reading skills serve as a foundation for writing. Developed and mastered, effective reading skills give tutee the opportunity to learn new information about the world, people, events, and places, enrich their vocabularies, and improve their writing skills. Good math skills help children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I have been tutoring professionally one year and a half within the Orangeburg School District Three Area with several in home tutoring programs. I am dedicated in helping students to achieve their dreams by empowering them with the skills needed to become successful adults.

My Work Experience I have in-home tutoring experience working with two prominent tutoring programs. I have been tutoring professionally since May of 2008 through June of 2009. The tutoring programs are aligning directly with the Orangeburg Consolidated District Three curriculum. I am experienced with assessing and evaluating students and determining skills that need strengthening. I have tutored kindergarten students helping them to recognize the alphabet, numbers, and shapes and recognizing money. My experience included also working with first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders helping to build there vocabulary, reading, and math skills. Reading Techniques Techniques that are use in the tutoring session include introducing the student to reference materials. These materials include dictionaries and using real life examples to help the student understand the material given. The dictionaries is use to introduce the students to avenues of finding answers by researching. Using reference materials teaches the student that instead of depending upon the teacher or the tutor to find the answer to a problem that research is the key. I introduce new material by giving examples that the student can relate to new vocabulary words. Math Techniques In order to help the student understand math skills, I use worksheets which consist of problems such as addition, subtraction, counting money, and understanding fractions. The techniques that I feel that works best with tutoring math skills are the actual tools such as using coins to help the student recognize and count correctly. The visual affects works and the handout materials are useful. Certification I have graduated from three colleges with a g.p.a of 3.5. I graduated with honors Magna Cum Laude from Claflin University. I am a member and I have received my certification in the art of tutoring from the International Tutoring Association. If you are looking for service with efficiency and dignity then contact me.
