Welcome to my page! My name is Natalia. I am an American citizen originally from Russia.

My educational background consists of a BA in Russian Language and Literature and an MA in Philology/ Linguistics. After teaching Russian Literature, I was a political journalist in Russia for 13 years. I was a reporter in a variety of settings, including the State Duma--the Russian equivalent of U.S. Congress.

For the past ten years, my love for the Russian language has found its home in teaching and tutoring English speakers in the Russian language. My courses are designed to meet the needs of the expatriate community and my method combines intensive teaching with a personal and communicative approach for speakers of all levels and goals.

My teaching style helps students acquire skills through intensive interaction in the target language. Contact time with the language is important--it paves way for better command. Students will interact with their target language in a variety of settings that replicate real day-to-day scenarios.

I offer five levels of Russian language courses:
A. Russian for Beginners
B. Pre-Intermediate
C. Intermediate
D. Upper-Intermediate
E. Advanced

Every level incorporates a different set of courses and reference books by the best Russian methodologists. Each level has its own time constraints and is structured to improve listening, reading, writing, and most importantly, speaking.

If you have any questions about me or my courses, please feel free to send me a message!

For the past ten years, I have been teaching English as a Second Language to Russian-speaking students. My courses are designed for individuals who have experienced educational or daily-living struggles because of their English language skills. I have taught in a variety of settings, including private schools, after school centers, and personal lessons in a one-to-one setting.

Grammar

I have been teaching ESOL to Russian speakers for the past ten years. My speciality is helping individuals assimilate into American life by giving them the necessary language skills for day-to-day living. This includes a focus on grammar, a topic many Russian speakers struggle with. However, my lessons are not dry and formulaic and consist of interactive, oral practice that helps the student get closer to their goals.

Russian

I graduated with a BA in Russian Language and Literature and an MA in Philology/Linguistics. After graduation, I briefly taught Russian at a state high school, before moving on to work as a reporter. Specifically, I was an editor for the city newspaper and moved my way up to Moscow to work as a political reporter for the State Duma--the Russian equivalent of U.S. Congress. In America, I began to express my love of language through teaching, and now have 10+ years of teaching ESOL to Russian speakers and Russian to English speakers.

Reading

I currently teach English Reading to non-native speakers at a private school. My students learn to read primarily because I help them believe they can. My lessons are a guided tour where I engage students in a journey. Reading requires more in-depth thinking, and I help my students see how the content area and literature vary and need to be taught and explored. After my lessons, they are more willing to cite examples from our common texts than ever before.

A Teacher's Teacher!

Natalia's joyful personality and genuine enthusiasm are the key to her tutoring success. Although each lesson is well planned and presented, she is always willing to follow my desire to explore additional areas of study, skip exercises or sections I find over-repetitive or unnecessary, and create new conversation topics and patterns. I am anticipating more each week my upcoming trip to Russia, and am confident I will be able to maximize the experience through a growing familiarity with the language, and Natalia's willingness to share her experiences and insight into the Russian land, people, and culture.
