Hello! My name is Frederick, and I am your next tutor! I am a recent graduate from the University of Florida looking to help others reach their academic potential. I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2017. I have 6 years of combined tutoring and teaching experience at the middle school through college levels. Some of my past job positions including serving as a teaching assistant for multiple college courses, a private virtual tutor, and a ballroom dance instructor. This gives me a large arsenal of teaching tool that I can use to explain difficult concepts in a simple manner. I also worked in the field as an engineer, which allows me to draw on those experiences while I teach to inspire and inform. I offer instruction in more than 20 subjects, including all middle through college level Math courses, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Microsoft Office, English, Spanish, and Ballroom Dance, among others. I also have experience with AP, SAT, and ACT test prep.
My teaching style is catered to the student's needs. For example, with visual learners, I write more notes on the page and create drawings to explain my point. In my experience, one of the most important components of a lesson is engagement and relatability. I like to use jokes and their interests to explain more difficult concepts in a way that they find enjoyable, rather than boring. I also like to use guiding questions to help a student figure it out on their own. Another important facet of my tutoring style is a "de-emphasis" on the concept of "wrong." People hate being wrong, and some become afraid to answer questions due to lack of confidence. My goal is an environment where students are unafraid to be a little of the mark, or to say, "I don't know."
