Hello! My name is Kyrie (bet it's not pronounced the way you think!), and I've been teaching music to students of all ages for almost fifteen years. Currently, I spend most of my time working with different nonprofits in my community, but I'm also here to help you with anything you need as well!

Hello! My name is Kyrie (bet it's not pronounced the way you think!), and I've been teaching music to students of all ages for almost fifteen years. Currently, I spend most of my time working with different nonprofits in my community, but I'm also here to help you with anything you need as well!

It's so vital that students realize their capacity and ability to achieve something they thought they wouldn't be able to do. Every time a student accomplishes something, they believe in themselves a little more, and they then gain the confidence to push themselves forward and try new things. Developing this confidence is incredibly important, particularly at younger ages, and it's my goal to help every student I teach get to that point!

I have been playing piano for over twenty years and violin for fifteen, and I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition from UNC School of the Arts and a Master's degree in Music Business from Berklee College of Music. In addition to tutoring or teaching privately, I've also tutored and taught students in both small group and classroom settings!

A few fun facts about me: My graduate degree program was based in Spain, so I ended up learning a good bit of Spanish while I was abroad! I can also speak French, and I've tutored students in both!

There's a prevalent, though incorrect assumption that all musicians have to begin as child prodigies, or need to start learning music before a certain age to succeed. In reality, it's never too late to start learning; I’ve worked with beginner students of all ages: children, seniors, and everyone in between! Prodigy or not, there’s room for all of us in the music world!

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I began composing music shortly after learning how to play the piano, around the age of five or six. Though I focused primarily on violin in middle school, in high school my interests became split between violin, orchestrating/arranging music, and music composition, so much so that I eventually chose composition as my major. While studying at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, I was instructed in the composition of multiple genres of music, and now myself have a wide-ranging portfolio of different musical styles.

For approximately 9 years, I've tutored a range of students in algebra. I've worked on fundamentals with elementary school students who were preparing for middle school as well as college-aged students reviewing algebraic concepts they had forgotten from high school. In my most recent primary occupation I tutored almost exclusively middle-schoolers who often found algebra to be their most difficult subject to understand, but now, many of them say it's their favorite class!

I don't dare to say I'm an expert on piano as it is not my primary focus, but I have a pretty solid grasp of the basics of playing and performance. Most of my experience has been teaching beginners and those looking to brush up their basic skills/technique.

Violin

Violin replaced piano as my primary instrument at the age of 10. From the age of 13 on, I've been teaching students of all ages, mainly beginner and intermediate. While in school for my bachelor's, I taught both violin and piano at a local music academy. Currently, I am doing in-person tutoring sessions with a violin student whose Orchestra class was moved online due to COVID-19.

Fun, informative, with an Alacrity to Teach!

Kyrie has a great way of going over the basics of piano and helping students understand what music is. I was hesitant to get a virtual teacher for learning piano, but Kyrie has a great ear for what should be played, so if I have questions about how I should be playing, she can easily answer them. I look forward to learning more from her!

Great Teacher

Great violin teacher. This is our second year and she is thorough. My grandson is 11 and desires to be an accomplished violin player. Although he doesn’t practice like he should his playing is impressive.

Nice and patient

I only had 1 session with her. She seemed very organized and detailed oriented. First impression, she was nice and patient. Will have to schedule more session to give a full review.

Excellent teacher

I’ve been working with Kyrie for about 4 months now and I wish I found her earlier. I’m a beginner that loves playing the piano and she has been patient, attentive and an absolute pleasure to work with. I’m looking forward to the next 4 months and I can say, although I’m still a beginner, my knowledge and piano playing skill has improved greatly. Kyrie makes learning the piano fun and I highly recommend working with her.

Comprehensive, patient, and accommodating!

Really enjoying my lessons so far! Kyrie is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I love how each lesson is structured around focusing on specific music theory concepts that I previously struggled with grasping and applying in practice. They’re also organized in a way that allows me to clearly see how each concept is interconnected with the last. This has been extremely beneficial to me as I’m finally building a solid foundation to work from. Always looking forward to each lesson!

Amazing Teacher!!!!

Kyrie is a amazing teacher. My 10 year old daughter decided that she wanted to learn how to play the violin and I was hoping to find someone that was patient with kids. Kyrie was patient and kind. My daughter left her first session with knowledge she didn’t know about the violin. She learned a lot just in the first session. Thank You Kyrie for making my daughter feel comfortable in class, all of her nervousness went away because of the instructors kindness and patience.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Kyrie made the whole virtual experience of violin lessons seamless. It was a great experience and we look forward to our next lessons. She was kind knowledgeable and great with my son. He was very nervous and anxious about virtual lessons but Kyrie was easy-going and made the experience memorable.
