Bio

I'm Ashley! I graduated from high school with highest honors in 2019 and am currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Psychology and Communications. Throughout my education, I developed a life-long love of learning and of helping other students find the joy in mastering new skills as well!

I'm Ashley! I graduated from high school with highest honors in 2019 and am currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Psychology and Communications. I have tutored several students over the years in elementary, middle, high school, and advanced college preparatory subjects. I also have several years of experience tutoring students with learning challenges such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. I enjoy volunteering and want to tutor so I can help others achieve their goals. I look forward to continuing to help others through tutoring and volunteering my skills in math, reading, language arts, study skills, and computers. Recently, I received special honors in recognition of a website I built on a volunteer basis for a non-profit organization where I used my skills in web development, and I was awarded a certificate for "Outstanding Contribution and Work" as Webmaster and Designer of this website.

I have five years of experience tutoring one-on-one with students grades K-12 of various learning styles. I specialize in Elementary Math, Prealgebra, Reading Comprehension, Writing, Language Arts, and Study Skills. I love helping students learn, and I enjoy working to make difficult and challenging subjects more understandable through auditory, visual, and kinesthetic methods tailored to each student.

I started Web Development in 2014 and have since built fully-functioning websites for non-profit organizations and individual clients. Because of this, I have the applied skills and knowledge to help others learn and achieve their goals. I teach advanced HTML and CSS for building fully-functional static websites, and also basic JavaScript and simple JavaScript game programming. I use project-based methods to teach these subjects so the student will learn in an applied environment that makes the essential concepts more memorable

Currently, I am working to become a certified Orton-Gillingham tutor in the Barton Reading & Spelling System for students with dyslexia. I have successfully tutored several dyslexic students of all ages and I have taken several courses in Psychology of Learning, Positive Psychology, and Child Psychology, which enables me to have a better understanding of learning styles and challenges such as dyslexia.

We have hired Ashley C. to tutor Jacob in 3rd grade math, in order to help me with his dyslexic instruction. This was his second class with her. Ashley has an excellent rapport with Jacob, and her style of positive reinforcement with clear and concise instruction, has enabled him to succeed right out of the gate. If he makes a mistake, Ashley carefully explains where he made an error, as well as showing him that he was almost right. With his Zoom sessions he is able to be confident and tries whatever is asked of him. After her explanations, Jacob will say, “Ok, I think I can do this myself, now”. My son is being tutored by Ashley to help with struggles he has regarding words (suspected dyslexia). She’s very sweet and patient with him. We are very early in the program so I don’t know a lot of specific things to compliment her on, but she does a great job at administering the program. We are planning to stick with her and the program she uses for as long as he needs it.
