I recently retired from a 30-year career as an aerospace systems engineer and I have been tutoring with Wyzant for over two years. Last year I began tutoring the ASVAB to students desiring to enter the military. With my help, my academic students have improved their grades and my ASVAB students have achieved qualifying scores. I am passionate about helping my students and am considered a patient, caring and effective tutor.

During my career as an aerospace engineer, where I focused on solutions to mathematical problems in navigation, guidance, and flight planning, I was required to exercise skills in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, and Calculus.

At work I was often called upon to train and lead technical teams. For example, I trained a group of aerospace engineers to use a software test facility. This enabled them to check out the prototype code before taking it into the full up integration test facility. As a mathematics graduate student at the University of Wisconsin, I taught PreCalculus for the Social Sciences and Business and was gratified to watch many of my students master the material and gain entrance into the competitive professional schools. I enjoy teaching and tutoring because I enjoy my subject and want others to master it as needed to fill a requirement or as a stepping stone towards a career objective.

I have a master's degree in mathematics with undergraduate minors in physics and computer science. I recently retired from a career as a systems engineer in the aerospace industry. During my career I worked with many Military personnel and have a great affinity and appreciation for those in service. My work with ASVAB students focuses on improving scores in any combination of the four subtests of the AFQT: (1) Arithmetic Reasoning (2) Mathematics Knowledge (3) Word Knowledge (4) Paragraph Comprehension At the initial meeting I ask to see the student’s prior scores and his/ her desired occupation and branch of service. Together, we identify the sub tests in which the student needs the most help and we make a schedule. I assign and grade homework and administer short quizzes to verify that lessons are understood. I provide handouts of key concepts. I also teach test-taking and time management skills. So far, I have had two students complete my program. 1. A student gained 12 points qualifying him for the job he wanted in the Coast Guard. 2. A student gained 23 points qualifying her for the job she wanted in the Navy.

Great tutor!!!

I just want to say that Gladys did an amazing job with my son. He has struggled with Math his entire time in school. He took the ASVAB to join the Coast Guard and scored too low to qualify for the job he wanted. Gladys tutored him for a few months and he raised his his overall score by 12 points reaching his goal. She was patient and truly took interest in finding ways to improve on his weaker areas. Thank you Gladys for assisting him in his goal to serve his country.

Thank you Gladys!!!

Solid knowledge/expertise in the subject matter, a clear way of explaining it, and most importantly, PATIENCE: That’s what makes an A-rated tutor like Gladys.

Great Teacher, PASSED MY ASVAB

I’ve been working with Miss Gladys for a couple months. I made a 25 on my ASVAB. I’ve been out of highschool for awhile and wanted to join the military my score went up to a 40! She’s very patient and sends great slides and homework that helps so much. She also very quick and fast with anything always available. I HIGHLY recommend her for a tutor! I couldn’t have passed with all the time she put in with me.

Help my son pass the ASVAB test

Gladys met with my son once a week for a couple of months in hoping to help him pass the ASVAB test for the air national guard. Gladys concentrated in the area of arithmetic and mathematics sections to help increase his score. Those areas are definitely not my sons strong points. My son just found out he passed the ASVAB test and with Gladys help, he achieved his goals! Thanks, Gladys!
