Hello,

I have taught special education for the past 24 years in the state of Georgia in the public school systems. Because of this experience, I have taught reading and language arts and math skills to every student that I have been in contact with. Hello,

I have taught special education for the past 24 years in the state of Georgia in the public school systems. Because of this experience, I have taught reading and language arts and math skills to every student that I have been in contact with. My experience has been spread evenly across the grade levels, with 11 years of teaching at the elementary level, 8 years teaching at the middle school level and 5 years of teaching at the high school level. While teaching high school students, I was assigned to co-teach in Biology classes. During the 2009-2010 school year, I completed a Reading Endorsement Program which enhances my ability to teach reading and writing skills to all grade levels of students as well as adults.

During the past five years of my teaching career, I have also worked with numerous hospital and home bound students. The assignments were given to me by their teachers and it was my responsibility to get the work to the student and then return the assignments to the teachers for grading. We were able to prepare for tests as well as administer testing when needed to accommodate the needs of the student at the time. These students had assignments in all subject areas, therefore, I was assisting them with all of the curriculum that they were assigned.

My 24 years of teaching experience has allowed me to use various reading programs, which address language deficits, reading difficulties, learning disabilities, and dyslexia.

I taught a self-contained special education class as well as worked as a resource teacher, where students would come to my class for additional assistance in reading, math, and language arts. So, not only were the students needs met in reading, math and language arts, but all across the curriculum.

Many of my students who were below grade level in reading had actually missed the phonics instruction when they were in elementary school. Many students who have difficulty spelling, also have trouble understanding letter sounds and blends. It has not been uncommon, even in high school to find students who still need instructional assistance in phonics.
