Hello,

I have been a college math instructor for more than 15 years (twice named Teacher of the Year by the student government association.) During this time, I have also been a professional tutor in my school's Learning Center. While I enjoy the challenge of classroom teaching, I have found that students often benefit most from the personalized, interactive nature of tutoring sessions.

My educational background includes Masters degrees in mathematics and physics, as well as Ph.D. coursework in math. In my role as a Learning Center tutor, I have acquired extensive experience tutoring almost all levels of college math and many physics courses. I have also tutored high school math (algebra and above) and HS physics. I hope to have the opportunity to help you achieve success!

Mathematica,

Mathematica

I have used the Mathematica computer algebra system throughout my career as a student and teacher. In particular, I used Mathematica extensively while completing my Master's thesis in physics. In this context, I wrote a number of Mathematica programs to model the behavior of solid state devices. As a teacher, I also use Mathematica (especially its graphical capabilities) to demonstrate concepts to some of my math classes.
R,

R

I have used R extensively as both a student and a teacher. In many of my graduate courses in mathematical statistics, I used basic R commands to carry out statistical analyses and produce common statistical graphs. In addition, I was required to write R programs to implement a number of advanced methods of estimation and hypothesis testing. I have also used R as a teacher to demonstrate various concepts and methods to my statistics classes.

Calculus,

Calculus

Knowledge of calculus is key to to the study of many areas of higher math. Calculus also finds significant applications in engineering, as well physics, chemistry, and other physical sciences. Increasingly, the methods of calculus are proving useful in biology, business and economics, and other fields. My studies in math at the graduate and undergraduate level have given me an appreciation of calculus from the level of practical calculations to advanced theory. My background in physics has also made familiar with many of the applications of calculus. I have taught many levels of college calculus courses tailored to a variety of student audiences. In particular, I have taught standard calculus sequences for math, physical science and engineering majors, as well as courses for biology/pre-med students, and calculus for business and economics majors. I have had the opportunity to help many students find success in calculus in my capacity as a professional tutor in a university math lab, as well as through Wyzant.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

In obtaining my Bachelor's degree in mathematics, I took the standard undergraduate course in ordinary differential equations. Partial differential equations were also included in one of my undergraduate advanced calculus courses. In addition, I learned many aspects of the theory of differential equations in various advanced undergraduate and graduate math courses. Differential equations finds some of its most significant applications in the field of physics, and I gained a knowledge of many of these applications in obtaining my B.S. and M.S. degrees in physics. I also taught an undergraduate course in differential equations at Binghamton University, and tutored many students in diff. eq. as a professional math tutor at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. I look forward to the opportunity to help you succeed in differential equations.
Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

In obtaining my BS and Master's degrees in mathematics, I took a number of courses that included the essential topics of discrete mathematics. These courses included logic, set theory, sequences, mathematical induction, number theory, combinatorics, probability and graph theory. As an instructor at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, I had the opportunity to teach discrete math several times. In addition, I also successfully tutored discrete math students in individual and group settings as a professional math tutor in the Learning Center at Penn State. I hope to have the chance to help you in discrete math.
Finite Math,

Finite Math

In the course of obtaining my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mathematics, I studied all the essential topics of finite mathematics. I also taught a finite math course at Penn State (University Park). In addition, I tutored many students in finite math while serving as a professional math tutor in the Learning Center at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. I would be glad to help you with finite math.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

The understanding of the importance of the applications of linear algebra to many different fields has grown significantly in recent years. As a result, students in many different majors are now required to complete linear algebra courses. I completed the basic undergraduate linear algebra course (for math majors) while obtaining my Bachelor's degree in math. I also completed a graduate level linear algebra course. In addition, I have a good appreciation for the applications of linear algebra in science (particularly physics), engineering, and other fields. While at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, I taught an undergraduate linear algebra course (for engineering majors) several times, and also tutored many students in linear algebra while serving as a professional math tutor. I look forward to the opportunity to help you succeed in linear algebra.
Logic,

Logic

In obtaining my BS in mathematics, I was required to complete a "transition to higher math" course. This course included the basic concepts of logic, stressing those necessary to do mathematical proofs. In completing my master's degree in math (Binghamton University), as well as in PhD courses I have taken at Penn State and Binghamton U, I have continued to put these concepts of logic into practice. In addition, I have taught many aspects of logic in college courses on Discrete Math (at Penn State Wilkes-Barre) and Finite Math (at Penn State University Park) These courses included basic propositional logic (truth tables, negations, logical equivalence, rules of inference), quantifiers, and applications. I hope to have the opportunity to help you in logic.

Excellent tutor!

William is a great tutor! He Takes the time to explain the material to you (so you thoroughly understand the material). He is very professional and prepares well for your session. Best tutor you could get for math! Take a session with him, you will not be disappointed!

Very knowledgeable

My first time meeting with him and it went very well, he was very thorough and helpful with explaining some Calculus 2 topics to me. I have another session already scheduled.

Calculus tutoring

William made himself available to my daughter as soon as he could, which was important to us as she was struggling in calculus. During the first session, he not only reviewed her calculus homework with her but he had her understanding many of the concepts that she was having difficulty with. I’m already noticing an increased confidence with my daughter and math. We have also scheduled another appointment and plan to continue to use William into the future.

Incredible Tutor!

I very much enjoyed my time with William. He took me through an entire semester of my graduate level mathematics based course. I was in a state of absolute panic when I was first introduced to the content of my course. After experiencing lessons with William, I can say that I could not have gotten through without him. I have nothing but respect for the amount of knowledge he has and was able to apply. He was with me every step of the way and I'm better for it. I highly recommend William. I will certainly be connecting with William in the future if there is ever another need for me to do so.

Very helpful and accomodating

I was unable to provide course or study materials for William - he quickly picked up on my level of understanding and built on this understanding with his own materials based on the syllabus that I provided him. I recommend working with William.

Linear Algebra

I couldn't be happier with my first tutoring session. William clarified the fundamental ideas within linear that had me at a standstill. He is very concise, gives clear explanations, and started our session refreshing my memory to terms I haven't seen in years. I can't express how thankful I am for his help and I look forward to many more sessions with him.

Understanding and very helpful

William does an amazing job of breaking down concepts into easy to understand parts. He is very patient and professional. He starts with the background of the material then does sample problems and looks over your work for mistakes and works through the mistakes and helps you understand the problem as well as how to fix it. Would recommend to anyone looking to truly learn.
