I am often in the top tier of WyZant tutors because I care, and I am skilled. Working one-on-one with my students allows me to find individualized ways to help them learn the material and develop skills that build their confidence and performance. Our tutoring sessions are positive and collaborative. When they succeed, we both celebrate.

If you need feedback on a college application essay or a coach for college writing, I can help. If you need to build content skills and strategies to excel on the SAT or ACT, I can help. If you need to improve your skills in analyzing literature, I can help. I have over 15 years of teaching experience as well as three years of tutoring experience in a university writing center where I was professionally certified as a tutor. In addition, I have five years of private tutoring experience with nearly 2500 hours logged on Wyzant alone. In teaching, I was consistently rated as "Highly Effective," in the classroom.

My experience teaching first-year composition courses at college has helped me to transition my high school students successfully into post-secondary education. They often return from college and tell me that the work we did in the classroom was exactly what they needed when transferring into college. Because of my experience in grade levels seven through twelve and first-year college composition, my students receive an excellent vertical alignment.

Grammar,

Grammar

As a consistently rated "Highly Effective" high school English teacher, I found and developed a wide variety of learning tasks to help my students learn according to their various learning styles and strengths. Beyond identifying and correctly using elements and mechanics of grammar, my students learned to apply what they had studied as they discussed other writers' intentions and then polished their own writing. I was the local grammar source at our high school for students and colleagues.
Proofreading

Proofreading

You know that person that you always ask to look over a resume, letter of application, or other crucial document that you have written? I am that person to my friend and colleagues. I do my best to help students understand how a carefully-worded, structured, and edited document elevates their writing and raises their opportunities as they pursue academic and career goals. An undergraduate college course in pedagogic grammar pushed me to understand grammar. Two master's degrees in English reinforced and built up my skills. My time teaching helped me to build a variety of methods and lessons to help teach my students how to understand and apply grammar effectively in their verbal and written communications.
