Hello-

My name is Ric, and I'm a professional trombone player, singer, writer and arranger for over 30 years. I have extensive music industry experience. In August 1992, I performed with Billy Joel, Foreigner, Paul Simon. In December 1993, I recorded & performed trombone on Phil Driscoll’s Grammy nominated album “Warriors” (Word Label 1994).

Additionally, I wrote all the horn arrangements on that album. In 2004, I recorded & performed trombone on John Lee Hooker, Jr’s Grammy nominated album “Blues With A Vengeance”(Kent Label 2004). I proceeded to record two more albums with Hooker, one of which I wrote horn arrangements on "All Hooked Up" album (Steppin' Stone Record Label 2012.

I've also recorded many salsa albums as well including projects with the Latin Rhythm Boys, Mambo Tropical, Broken English, La Verdad, and Ron Scott. I wrote horn arrangements for Italian rock star Zucchero for his world tour in 2013. I myself been on tour in various parts of the world (Algeria, Mexico, NY, Las Vegas). Other artists include Ron Scott, Pete Escovedo, Willy Torres (from Spanish Harlem Orchestra), salsa star Johnny Polanco, Orlando Castro.

I share this experience with you because I believe my vast experience in the industry will help you get an edge when taking on a low brass instrument, specifically the trombone. Sound is everything. I have a reputation for "sounding great." The other thing is counting correctly. Extremely important. If you have those two fundamentals, you will have success. There is a lot of demand now for the trombone in many genres (rock, blues, salsa, ska, latin rock, smooth jazz, etc) I can help you achieve success by learning the fundamentals of trombone performance as well as some esoteric techniques.

I'm based in the Bay Area and would love to teach you what I know and share my experience with you.

Thank you very much,

Ric

Great mentor who has inspired my daughter's love for saxophone

My daughter has been taking lessons with Ric for a couple of months now. While my daughter learned how to play saxophone while in elementary school, she found the music program at her middle school weak, and wanted private lessons so she could continue practicing and growing her skills. Ric has ignited her passion for playing saxophone; often after her lessons with him she tells me how much she enjoys playing. Ric has coached her on technique, has taught her songs to play, and occasionally accompanies her on piano. Everyone in the house loves hearing her play during her lesson and I've even seen neighbors stand outside our house to appreciate the music. Moreover, Ric is very patient and knows when to push her vs. when to encourage her to relax. I appreciate how easeful he is with her and how he talks to her. They have great rapport, which makes her even more open to learning from him. I'm grateful for the music Ric has brought into our lives and how much he has inspired my daughter.

Fantastic Trombone Tutor and Musician

Ric has been giving lessons to my father who has significant sight challenges. Dad hadn't played his trombone in over 9 years and recently was inspired to play again. Ric is so patient and did not bat an eye when I explained the situation and that Dad was unable to see written music anymore. Each lesson, Ric guides my Dad to help him regain his "muscle memory" and dust off those long-ago skills a bit more. Dad is so thrilled to play more and more each time. Ric is such a pro and seems to have effortlessly adapted to my Dad's limitations. We both really enjoy the moments Ric plays himself and understand in addition to teaching, he is also a professional performing and studio artist. We are eager to attend one of his concerts hopefully soon. Bravo for the wonderful work you do with my Dad and many thanks indeed.

teacher in every sense

Today Ric taught 7 year old Alexander his 2nd class. First class he kind of scared Alexander as he is a big guy. This class Alexander was absolutely endeared to Ric and now is looking forward to Ric’s future classes. Of note, Ric is a highly principled person had booked 2 hours for the first class but Ric felt it was too much for Alexander and then 90 minutes for this second class. Both classes Ric suggested an one hour class and charged only for one hour. Teachers and people like Ric make America great.

Patient teacher

Ric was very patient with my 10 year old. He was able to explain things to my son slowly, and repeat himself where necessary, as well as check to ensure that my son was understanding things. Off to a great start

Ric is really knowledgeable. He can catch students on how many hrs they practiced if they lie. Just by hearing my son play, he noticed that he did not practice well !!!

Hopefully from next class, we have good internet connection. Class after 5:30 would help us. Until 5:30 internet usage will be high at home. However hats off to Ric being very patient with the student.

Teaching experience over 35 years shows

With no background in any instrument, I'm making good progress on my 2nd class!! Once I hit a ceiling, he goes back to things that I can do comfortably and then revisits the harder sections.

if you want to sound like a pro, Ric is your teacher

Since the day Ric came Into our lives, we have enjoyed beautiful sounds of our son's trombone. Ric has instilled a level of confidence, understanding of all the elements needed to sound amazing and have fun doing it. Ric has a special way of focusing on one or two things in each lesson building a solid foundation that our son can use even outside of music. We are incredibly blessed to have Ric in our lives.
