I'm Razi! I just graduated Cum Laude with a BA from Harvard University in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (and now fluently speak Hebrew, Arabic and English!). I was a top 10% Wyzant tutor in 2020, and spent hundreds of hours helping students with their college, med school, and other application essays.

Ever since giving my first chess lesson when I was 11 years old (certainly the most exciting $2 I have ever made in my life) I have continued tutoring in almost every imaginable capacity, from ACT, to college essays, from middle school English to high school math, from the suburbs to the inner-city, from lifelong Americans to recent refugees.

Of all the types of tutoring I enjoy, I particularly love helping High Schoolers with their college applications. The entire process can often seem quite daunting, and especially, the essay, where one is required to condense the most important part of him or herself into a few hundred words. When I was published in the most recent edition of "50 Successful Harvard Application Essays" I realized how influential my essay must have been on my admission and hope to share what helped me create a powerful essay with anyone I can teach. My students have been accepted to dozens of schools and many scholarships, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Brown, Caltech, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Dean’s Scholarship at Northeastern, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, UMich, Wellesley, the UC’s, UVA, the UT’s, UNC, and more.

Besides for college essays, I’ve helped students learn new languages, learn to read critically, study for ACT’s/SAT’s, write analytically, play chess better, and much more. As a bonus, besides for helping you study for anything you might need, I also can juggle, speak four languages, play the saxophone for comic relief/a fun break during the lesson!

I have lived in Israel for more than three years. When I was younger I spoke Hebrew at home, and studied Hebrew intensively from pre-school to college. At Harvard, I started and organized Harvard University's first "Hebrew Table" where I would during dinner and talk to any students interested in practicing their Hebrew. I have also tutored and taught Hebrew to Elementary School, Middle School, and High School students for 8+ years!

I graduated with a BA from Harvard University in 2020 and now specialize in editing and crafting University admissions essays. I have edited hundreds of BA, MA, and PHD application essays, and my students have gotten into UPENN, Northeastern, UVA, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, and many more. Personally, I spent countless hours on my Harvard application, and my application essay was published in Harvard's most recent edition of 50 Best Harvard Essays. Most importantly, my vast experience has helped me understand what schools are looking for, and I know how to craft meaningful essays that can help you reach the school of your dreams!

Incredible College Essay Expert

Razi was an absolutely incredible college essay expert. Throughout our sessions together, Razi ensured every minute was well spent, very efficient, and fun. I significantly struggled finding my “voice” in these essays and making them exceptional. Razi helped me refine my essays to fully express myself and show more vulnerability throughout the writing process. I believe that these essays were one significant part that led to my acceptance at Stanford.

Top-tier tutor

Razi was super insightful throughout my college essay writing process. The meetings I had with him were always productive, and I walked away feeling confident in my next steps. He gave me honest, consistent feedback on my work. This led me to construct a final personal statement that I was proud of and that helped me gain admission to Stanford. Sincerely, Razi is an essay genius. I couldn't recommend him more to students who are seeking the highest quality essay tutor!

My Best Essay Tutor

Razi is the best essay tutor I’ve ever had! I greatly appreciated his straightforward and encouraging suggestions that kept me motivated to keep improving my essays, and in just a couple months, I saw the quality of both my essays and writing abilities skyrocket. Combined with his remarkable efficiency during meetings, Razi’s skills and vision as a mentor played a massive role in me getting accepted into my dream school, Johns Hopkins.

College Essay Wizard

Every time I have a lesson with Razi I am amazed about how much we are able to get done in such a short amount of time. Doing my common app essay, he was able to shrink 1200 words into 650 words in a matter of 37 minutes. His explanations are clear, he has great energy, and he’s always smiling and encouraging me to do my best. I think he is a college essay wizard. 11/10 would recommend.

Always encouraging me to do my best

Razi is very straightforward and open about giving me really good advice. He is very considerate of my time and is patient with me. I am struggling with the Common App essay but he is still patient with me and guiding me along through the process.

Razi is a genius!

Razi is sharp, sharp, sharp. He is a true godsend and there is no other way to put it. He helped my daughter transform her somewhat generic essays to original pieces that we can't stop reading. I loved that Razi knew the secret to crafting a great essay and kept pushing my daughter to think deeper and find the “why”. We knew we had found the perfect person to work with for the other camp applications and for the college applications in the fall! Thank you, Razi!!!

Best Essay Tutor in the World

I came to Wyzant to look for essay help after struggling with writing my college essays. The first three tutors I used would do the same steps every lesson: they would rush through my essays quickly, providing basic grammar help, before saying they were good to submit. I felt as if I wasn’t getting the help I had wanted: what was the point of getting essay help if all my essays were good. Looking for one final tutor to take a chance on, I booked a one-hour session with Razi. From the beginning, I knew Razi was a different type of tutor. Instead of leaving basic feedback, he strictly scrutinized each word, sentence, and paragraph in all of my essays to make sure that my writing was adequately portraying my unique voice and demonstrating my writing skills. He would start by reading through the entirety of my essays before going through detailed comments and edits with me. Having not been a great writer before meeting Razi, our meetings helped completely transform and improve my writing. Razi has helped form my scrapbook essay ideas into college essay masterclasses. I won’t lie: sometimes his extended comments weren't very pleasant. For one of my Brown essays, I went through five weeks of meetings before finally having my final draft. Even though it was a terrible experience to keep revising and editing, I was proud of the work I did, shown in an essay that helped adequately demonstrate my interest in the school. Apart from college essays, Razi is a gracious and kind human being. Each meeting, he has a giant smile on his face, and oftentimes he will alter his own schedule to make sure that each of his students has an opportunity to meet with him. I can genuinely tell he works with students not for the money but out of his enjoyment in helping students succeed. I strongly encourage you to hire Razi as a tutor.

Amazing teacher, worth every minute!

Razi reviewed my son's college app essays with him and was amazing! He asked all the right questions and guided her in condensing and focusing her essay. He truly knows what he is doing. I would definitely recommend him

Helped me get into my dream school

When I first met Razi, he gave me the opportunity to tell him what I wanted my essay to be about. I was able to explain to him my passion for writing and how I wanted to use that for my main Common App essay. He walked me through the basics of essay-writing, explaining what was allowed and what wasn’t, reminding me of the key rule: show, don’t tell. He helped me plan the structure of the essay, and writing it was a breeze from then on. He helped me edit parts down and gave me ideas when I went blank. When we moved onto the supplements, we went through the same process. I was able to bounce topics off of him, and he would help me in the editing process. I was accepted to Brown University under Early Decision, and I don’t think this would have been possible without Razi’s guidance. I would strongly recommend him to anyone looking for help with their university applications.

Knowledgable, Insightful and Efficient Tutor

Razi helped with college essays. He was very thoughtful in his guidance, building upon the storyline. He prompts deep reflection and knows exactly what it means to show vs tell. He is efficient and gets it done in less time vs drag it out. He genuinely cares about the student success. I got into Cornell with his support.
