I believe students should be confident in their math skills. By getting good grades in school, their options in life (e.g. jobs, career paths) are kept open. I gauge where the student is at in knowing the concepts by having him/her work out the problems. Every problem has two parts: the first is recognizing what kind of problem it is (e.g. quadratic equation) and the second is the mechanics of working it out (e.g. arithmetic skills, factoring, quadratic formula). I have been tutoring since I was in high school myself. I keep it simple and fun! I have given students confidence in their math skills which has transferred into overall confidence in themselves. We both roll up our sleeves and do the problems together. I have a BA in Mathematics from Cal State Fullerton.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

We will study elementary math concepts including: whole numbers, measurement units, fractions, equations and formulas, and data representation and analysis. In addition, we will cover basic two-dimensional geometry, rounding and significant figures, estimation, decimals, percentages, proportions, negative numbers, exponents and radicals. Lastly, we will study compass-and-straightedge, congruence, similarity, patterns, and slopes.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

We have fun with algebra topics such as factoring, solving and graphing linear equations, word problems, and solving a system of equations, just to name a few. I turn factoring into a fun and efficient game. And, I really enjoy connecting with the student to break down word problems by translating them into workable math problems, and thus decreasing the student's anxiety and fear.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 has a whole host of new concepts including advanced factoring, function transformations, sequences, and series. We learn the relationship between exponential and log functions. I also enjoy connecting with the student to demonstrate how synthetic division, long division, factoring, finding the zeros, graphing a polynomial, and evaluating a polynomial are all related.
Calculus,

Calculus

We will study calculus concepts such as limits and continuity; differentiation and integration of algebraic, trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic, and hyperbolic functions; related rates; and optimization problems. In addition, we will study applications of integration such as volume.
Geometry,

Geometry

I really enjoy tutoring logic, inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning, and two column proofs. I connect with the student to create a logical and efficient two column proof based on deductive reasoning using theorems, postulates, and definitions. We have fun with proofs on popular topics such as parallel lines, congruent triangles, and CPCTC.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

We will study prealgebra concepts including: natural number arithmetic, integers, fractions, decimals, negative numbers, operator precedence (PEMDAS), and factorization of natural numbers. We will also study properties of operations such as associativity and distributivity. Lastly, we will cover square roots, powers, and the coordinate plane.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Precalculus is a catchall of topics that need to be in place before going on to calculus. Included among these topics are conic sections, polar coordinates, vectors, matrices, and probability theory. I also enjoy connecting with the student to explore the concept of the limit and how it relates to the slope of a secant line.
SAT Math

SAT Math

We will cover subjects including: Heart of Algebra, Passport to Advanced Math, Problem Solving, and Data Analysis. In addition, we will include geometry, trigonometry, and problems with complex numbers. Also, we will put together a weekly study program to increase the score.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

We will prepare for the ACT by studying the following subjects: Pre-Algebra, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Plane Geometry, and Trigonometry. We will also cover matrices. In addition, we will put together a weekly study program to increase the score.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

We have fun with topics including the unit circle, SOHCAHTOA, the Law of Sines, and the Law of Cosines. I show the student how to use easy, logical, and intuitive formulas for finding the arc length of a circle and the area of a sector. We derive and work with trig formulas such as the sin and cos of a sum or difference, half angle, and double angle. And, I show the student quick and easy ways to graph all of the six trig functions.

Patient and explains very well

Madeleine helped put my daughter at ease and was very patient with any questions she had. My daughter was able to feel confident enough to explain a problem to another classmate! Would definitely use her again and recommend to others! Thank you Madeleine!!

Interest and percentages

Excellent instruction. Very helpful and explained concepts clearly. The hour lesson helped my 13-year old daughter understand the concepts and methods to solve problems. My daughter is looking forward to her next session.

Ms. Madeleine is super awesome!!!

I have used Ms. Madeleine's assistance for quite a few sessions to help my daughter in 9th & 10th grade math. In 9th grade, my daughter was getting a D in math as she was completely stuck on some subjects and fell behind. We enrolled Ms. Madeleine's help and within a few sessions, we noticed the progress. She ended the year getting an A in math! This would NOT have been possible without Ms. Madeleine's help, I know that for a fact! She is now helping my daughter with Geometry in 10th grade. My daughter was stuck on something and Ms. Madeleine helped her understand it in one session. A++++++++++++++++++++ tutor
