Hello, and I hope you are "smiling so widely you could eat a banana sideways."

Important: My rate is negotiable. I do not want to turn a student in need away for financial reasons.

I have a Master of Arts in the Teaching of English (Language Arts/Literature) from Columbia University's Teachers College, and I graduated with slightly over a 4.0 GPA (between an A and A+ average). I want to be involved in students' well-being in a way that goes beyond the scope of classroom teaching. The presence of a tutor in a young person's life can make a difference academically and personally. I came to this realization in my student-teaching experience. Due to the individualized attention I, a second teacher in the room, afforded, I watched habitually taciturn, fearful, and otherwise closed-up students bloom. This process convinced me that I want to dedicate myself to experiences like these. In reading many of their evaluations of me upon leaving, their heartfelt exuberance over how much they liked working with me not only elicited tears but solidified my desire to continue to personally touch students in ways that can be stymied by the impersonalism of a classroom of 30+ students.

I absolutely love working with young people, no matter the age, and I know, through years of teaching and tutoring experiences, as well as more summer camps than I can count on two hands, that they feel at home, safe, inspired, and encouraged to love themselves in my presence because I teach them confidence in the unique gifts they bring to the world. I am a jolly-hearted goofball, a logophile, and bibliophile. My first book was published in 2022: 13 quirky short stories, entitled But I Digretch. I am a drummer and a consummate athlete. I was offered full scholarships for basketball from dozens of Division 1 schools but chose and played for Columbia University. I have been a full-time editor for 10 years but my heart longs to connect with students again. I look forward to helping students of any age shine!

Basketball

Basketball was my life growing up! I began playing when I was in 5th grade and was recruited by dozens of colleges, ultimately choosing to attend and play basketball for Columbia University. I was All-American in high school, was all-time top scorer for my high school (Ursuline), played on the starting five at the US Nationals with Chamique Holdsclaw -- she was dubbed the "female Michael Jordan" when she played professionally for years -- for my high school AAU team (Liberty Belles) ... and if you ask my dad, he could go in for hours "bragging" about his daughter's basketball glory days. I also taught basketball to all age groups and genders for several summer camps over the course of many years.
