Bio

I am passionate about tutoring because it allows me to combine my love of learning with the sheer joy of helping students gain a better understanding of the particular subject matter. This passion was reinforced by my experiences as a statistics and psychology tutor for two academic years at the Los Angeles Valley College. During my time there, I helped students of varying age groups ranging from freshmen to adult learners with varying levels of understanding of the subject matter.

I am passionate about tutoring because it allows me to combine my love of learning with the sheer joy of helping students gain a better understanding of the particular subject matter. This passion was reinforced by my experiences as a statistics and psychology tutor for two academic years at the Los Angeles Valley College. During my time there, I helped students of varying age groups ranging from freshmen to adult learners with varying levels of understanding of the subject matter.

I realize that due to the technical nature of statistics, students tend to memorize formulas and concepts, but become frustrated when they encounter problems that require them to apply variations of those particular formulas or concepts. In general, I address this issue by explaining the concepts in terms of relevant real world scenarios. Specifically, I first determine whether students are having difficulties with understanding the connection between a particular concept and its application to the problem or with the concept itself by asking them to solve alternative scenarios of the same problem. Then, I explain each step of the problem as it relates to the concept(s) in the context of relevant real word scenarios while confirming that they truly understand my explanations. Finally, I assign problems that involve applying the concept(s) in similar ways to the ones with which they were having difficulty but also in different ways that require a firm understanding of the concept(s).

During this process, I have seen students' facial expressions change as they realize that they are more than capable of mastering the subject that they previously thought to be insurmountable or even boring. What was required was a change in how they thought about the subject matter which we were able to achieve over the course of our tutoring sessions. As a tutor, I have seen this noticeable transformation in their thinking patterns and attitudes about the subject matter being reflected in dramatic improvement in their scores on tests and assignment

These areas of interest include basic statistical techniques such as t-test, ANOVA using F-test, MANOVA, Chi-Square analysis, non parametric techniques such as Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Kruskal-Wallis test, sign test, etc. Finally, I have a high level of familiarity with both simple and multiple linear regression and non-parametric alternatives such as Spearman's rank correlation.

EXCELLENT tutor!

Chetan and I had three sessions together. Every one of them was well worth the time and money spent. He worked on nonparametric and parametric testing for my PhD course. He was patient, respectful, knowledgeable and always prompt with communication. During one of my sessions we were unable to address a topic due to my time constraints. Chetan sent me a message to answer my last question that we were unable to get to. I highly recommend him and have full confidence that you will be satisfied with his tutoring as well!
