Welcome! If you need a dedicated & patient tutor who is passionate about helping students, try me! I've spent 30+ yrs. successfully teaching/tutoring. I go the extra mile to help students develop confidence and achieve their goals.

I have a B.A. in English from UCLA, and I've published in local magazines. I have a permanent Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, and I've taught in 4 schools in the Los Angeles area. I've taught/tutored every grade from K-7. My experience includes teaching struggling students as well as gifted and talented. I've received PTA teaching awards twice in my classroom tenure. Now, I enjoy tutoring on a part-time basis. I'm effective at tutoring reading, mathematics, phonics, reading comprehension, writing (including creative), spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, and grammar and can also help with testing, homework, and study skills.

I'm not limited to teaching (K-6). My credential is K-9. I teach reading, writing, and English for grades 6, and 7. I can assist you with test preparation for COGAT-Gr 1-5, and Lower Level ISEE. I can also help review/polish rough drafts.

Usually, I begin by assessing your skills (or your child's). I use the results to custom-tailor lessons! I utilize multiple teaching modalities, provide feedback reports and assessments, and adjust our lessons accordingly. I'm well-prepared, punctual, and have a sense of humor. I try to cultivate a great tutor/student relationship.

I offer the option of private lessons in a study room at the Santa Monica Library. Also, ask about my discount for more than 2 lessons/wk! In addition to in-person lessons and home school, I tutor online for grades 1-7 (9 yrs). When not tutoring, I enjoy yoga, my 2 dogs, walking with adventure groups, reading many genres, and all art forms.

I believe we all bring unique talents to the table. I'm eager to help you use your talents to grow in confidence and success! Feel free to contact me, if you'd like to chat!

Exceeded all expectations!

I came to Wyzant to find a creative writing tutor to teach homeless children. After a last-minute cancellation from another tutor, I was skeptical that anyone would be available to do the job. But Nancy came to the rescue, and although she had nearly perfect Wyzant reviews, she still managed to exceed all my expectations. I cannot recommend her highly enough! She has the cutest, sweetest, most engaging personality, and the kids all fell in love with her. I wish she had been my elementary school teacher. :) It's not easy to find someone this thorough. Nancy is truly a gem!

Thank you, Storey.

My son finally likes to read!

We brought Nancy in to help our 2nd grade son get over the reading hump. He knew all his letters sounds and some sight words but there was no fluency to his reading. Each sentence was a struggle and getting him to read outside of school was painful. We realized that our son would not likely learn to read at school and needed outside intervention. After reading Nancy’s reviews we were hoping she would be the magic our son needed. The change in our son’s reading confidence was immediate! Within only a few weeks it was clear that Nancy had made a huge difference. We are very pleased with Nancy’s results and appreciate her through feedback after every session. While tutoring probably isn’t any child’s first choice for an after school activity our son really enjoys his time with Nancy. He always has a big smile at the end of their sessions.

We are very pleased with Nancy and the progress our child has made and our child loves Nancy. The two have been working together since the end of the last school year (2nd grade) where core math posed a big challenge. She scored 80% on her first test in the 3rd grade and her confidence level has definitely increased! We are all very pleased.
