I began my classical music education at the age of sixteen with international soloist Jun Kubo. Only a year and a half after I began my studies with Jun Kubo, I was accepted into The College of New Jersey for a Bachelor's program in Music Performance where I studied with David DiGiacobbe. Only a year and a half after I began my studies with Jun Kubo, I was accepted into The College of New Jersey for a Bachelor's program in Music Performance where I studied with David DiGiacobbe. While at TCNJ, I performed my own programs in Mayo Concert Hall, featuring soloistic works by composers such as Nielsen, Hoover, and Takemitsu. I also had the pleasure of performing with the TCNJ Opera, Chamber, and Symphony Orchestras. I went on to perform with the NYU Symphony Orchestra and participate in the NYU Chamber Music program where I have played with a Trio, Quintet, Sextet, and flute ensemble. I have participated in masterclasses with performers such as Trevor Wye, Min Park, Gary Shocker and Bradley Garner. I currently run my own teaching studio Wisconsin where I teach music theory, woodwinds, voice, and piano. I have obtained my Bachelors from The College of New Jersey in music performance, and my Master of Music degree from NYU, where I studied with Bradley Garner. I also taught at a music conservatory in Springfield, NJ, where I taught Woodwinds, Piano, Voice and Music Theory for about 5 years and helped prepare students for auditions, competitions, and evaluations.

I use a very supportive and positive teaching style. I believe that music lessons should be a way to help build self esteem as well as show students that they are capable of great things! I always incorporate music theory in my lessons. I think it is vital that students understand at least some music theory in order to understand what they are learning and why. I do think fundamentals are vital for every instrument, but I also think it is important for students to learn pieces and genres that interest them as well.

I am always excited to meet new students and share the joy of music!

Established a great Rapport

First lesson learning how to set up and hold the instrument. Learned how to successfully make sounds, with the reed instrument. Started learning making sense of music composition. Very comfortable and understanding.

Wonderful first lesson!

My daughter had her first clarinet lesson and Kathleen was so kind and positive and very patience. An excellent combination for a teacher. I can tell she will help instill a love of the instrument. We are so grateful!

Heather, 6 lessons with Kathleen

Patient and encouraging!

We worked on a new prelude, a new note, and especially breath (air) control. We discussed reed placement and selection, and also the benefits or necessity of different mouthpieces.

Patient and pleasant demeanor

Kathleen is a wonderful flute teacher for my 15 year old. She is patient, knowledgeable, and has a pleasant demeanor. She is highly organized and prepared for each lesson. Lessons start promptly on time and homework is provided for the next lesson. One thing my teenager loves most about Kathleen is that she is always cheerful! I highly recommend Kathleen for any student.

Highly recommended!

I’ve had several lessons with Kathleen and I am definitely noticing improvements in my control, tone, and overall playing. I love her approach to teaching and assignments to practice and study at home. It helps me focus on the areas I need to give extra attention to in an effective manner. I also have a fun time with her as I am learning. She is an excellent tutor that will keep you motivated, challenged and improving.

Very kind and patient!

Kathleen is so sweet and positive during her sessions with my daughter. We are hopeful that with more practice, she will be able to put more of her new skills to the test. Excited to see her progress!

Awesome Tutor!

Kathleen has a lovely personality and I felt comfortable with her right from the start. She was able to immediately identify my areas that needed improvement and made very helpful suggestions. I noticed a difference in how her advice positively affected my playing very early and she explained the reasoning behind the changes very well so that I understood clearly what I was doing and why it was effective. She gave me material and exercises to practice and I like that she is very kind and encouraging as she simultaneously challenges you to progress. I had a great session and I’m looking forward to our future ones!

Piano lesson

I am an experienced musician, but not on piano. I have had a number of lessons with Kathleen and am very much impressed. She challenges me with new material each week, but does it in a very positive way. Teaching piano is her full time job. I referred my 5 year old niece to her for Skype lessons. It is very exciting to see Madeline progressing and to observe Kathleen teaching an absolute beginner. As an accomplished musician (clarinet and saxophone) , I would give Kathleen a very high rating as a piano instructor.
