Thank you for visiting my profile. I am a science and music educator and have a unique approach to teaching. My undergraduate career was focused on mastering biology, music, chemistry, and psychology. Currently, I am a senior PhD candidate at UCSF finishing my dissertation research in cancer genetics. My students in the past have included individuals with ADHD, OCD, and dyslexia, as well as those on the autism spectrum and anxiety disorders.

Biology & Chemistry:

My knowledge in these two fields have been cemented by the experiences I have gained via conducting biomedical research in the fields of biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, and cancer biology since 2010. Additionally, I have worked with students at all levels - elementary, middle, and high school, as well as college, post-baccalaureate, and graduate levels - in topics of biology (cell and molecular biology, ecology and evolutionary biology, genetics, neuroscience, physiology, immunology, cancer biology, and anatomy), chemistry (general and organic), and biochemistry, as well as standardized test preparation for the DAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP exams. With more than 14 years of experience in research and teaching, explaining scientific phenomena comes naturally to me and I am able to break down complex topics into simple, digestible terms that are easily understood by anyone, regardless of their background in science. I focus on developing robust critical thinking skills to minimize dependence on memorization.

Piano:

I'm a classically-trained pianist and have had one year of intensive piano pedagogy training as a part of my music studies during undergrad. My approach involves a deep understanding of anatomy and neuroscience to develop effective kinesthetic, intellectual, and artistic skills. During the last 13 years I have worked with over 300 students ranging from 5-60 years of age for piano, music theory, composition, and competition preparation. I currently specialize in working with adults.

I completed my B.S. in cell and developmental biology and I am currently finishing my PhD in cancer biology at UCSF. With a highly detailed-oriented teaching approach, I train my students to become resilient, intelligent critical thinkers and problem solvers. I emphasize on connecting all the microscopic events to the bigger picture with real life examples to not only help my students remember the material better, but to spark enthusiasm and help them enjoy the topic.

A Passionate and Intelligent Teacher

I’m a second year college student and Ramin has been working with me on both biology and chemistry. He works efficiently and doesn’t waste time. He is extremely intelligent and detail-oriented, and his knowledge goes way beyond the material we cover. He has been showing me how to think critically and use deductive reasoning to break down problems in a logical fashion. I have been unenthusiastic about both topics since the beginning the semester, but now I actually care to learn. He consistently brings up applications of the material that apply to real life scenarios and ties them up to nutritional facts, various diseases, etc., which makes it very interesting to learn. Ramin is very personable, polite, and patient. Sometimes I could be slow in understating a particular topic, but he never judges me. Instead, he takes the time to explain it differently and tries to go with my pace. I wish I could have had a teacher like him earlier so I wouldn't have fallen behind. Luckily enough, I came across him and now I feel like I am ahead of the curve. I would recommend Ramin without hesitation.

Easygoing and Knowledgeable Tutor.

I have had Ramin as my Chen tutor for three lessons and I have learned so much from him in a short amount of time. He is a very patient, intelligent, and passionate tutor and teaches with purpose. He always makes sure that I understand the material he is teaching, and always answers any questions I pose him. He is extremely knowledgeable about the material and breaks down difficult concepts into something that is easy to understand. I would like to thank him so much for everything he has taught me, it has immensely helped.

Productive and Knowledgeable

Ramin has been helping me learn the foundations of chemistry for my Chem 1A class at UCI. He is thorough in teaching the concepts of each lesson, and his clear explanations make me confident that I know the material. Being well tuned-in to the student's comprehension is definitely one of his strengths. I would highly recommend him for a productive tutoring session, to feel completely in the concepts.
