I am a grad student at BYU and have taught Math, Nuclear Physics, and other material related to nuclear power but I'm pretty relaxed. I got my undergraduate in Math and graduated the top 2% of my class but have had a good time and great success tutoring while in school. I have tutored students of many ages and levels of understanding. I know how to communicate the material in a way that students can grasp. I have experience teaching college algebra at ASU. I worked for a serious mathematics education research program at the University but I don't take myself overly serious. At the university I research methods of better preparing the lessons that I give as well as methodically edit current homework (with several PhDs in Math education) assignments to increase student understanding. I have a very interactive approach. My experience with mathematics education research has done a lot to influence my views on tutoring and teaching in general. The students end up learning more by incorporating learning oriented methods instead of just solving the problems for them.

I also have a lot of fun with my students. In the process of tutoring many times I end up forming a friendly (yet still semi-professional) report. I find this increases the student's ability to ask me when they don't understand the material. They find me quite approachable. When my students were anonymously surveyed at the end of the semester many commented on my enthusiasm. One of the survey questions asked "Do you feel comfortable approaching your teacher with questions" 96% of my students answered that they strongly agreed with that statement. I have tutored at ASU and privately and I have a lot of fun together and they improve leaps and bounds. I had one student who went from Fs to getting Bs on all her tests after the first two sessions but sometimes it takes a little longer
