Bio

I graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Sciences in Electrical Engineering, and then went on to matriculate with the Class of 2014 at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. As a proud new father, I have currently taken a temporary leave from my last year of medical studies to tend to my new responsibilities. However, I am keen on using this time to simultaneously teach and thus help others pursue their own dreams.

I spent three years in undergrad serving as a Teaching Assistant in Physics II, a notorious weed-out class--there I developed skills breaking down difficult concepts and helping students understand and master the material. The past two years of my life have been very patient-oriented and thus centered on adopting empathy, patience, and active listening. Additionally, I am accustomed to working in a multicultural environment that emphasizes inclusion. I hope to translate these skills to my role as a tutor. I am an accommodating and versatile individual with the talent to develop inspiring hands-on lessons that will capture any student’s imagination and breed success. Moreover, my most recent experiences as a father create the promise for a warm and caring teacher who wants all children to be successful learners. I will work to create a learning atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging, and adaptive to the varied needs of all types of learners.

I received a 1540 overall (max 1600) on the SAT, including a 790 on the Mathematics portion, as well as an 800 (max 800) on the SAT II - Mathematics. In high school, I placed first in a number of Math Team competitions and completed Calculus III, Statistics, and Differential Equations; I then expanded upon my mathematical knowledge at Georgia Tech with myriad math-based engineering courses, Linear Algebra, and Random Signals. I practiced professionally as an electrical engineer prior to medical school, and currently teach math ranging from Elementary Math through Differential Equations and Discrete Math. I work to formulate an engaging lesson plan for any learning style, and endeavor to make a frequently under-appreciated subject accessible and interesting to any student. Finally, I have experience professionally and personally preparing students for standardized tests.

GREAT teacher, very patient and determined

I genuinely loved having Jonathan as my ACT tutor. My test taking skills, confidence, and definitely my algebra skills improved dramatically in just a month. He is also very relatable and clearly cares about the success of his students. Highly recommend.

Jonathan is the best!

Jonathan worked with my mom who had a stroke 2.5 years ago. It’s a unique situation and Jonathan was patient and super helpful! They continue to cover topics where she needs assistance.

Knowledgeable

Helped me for preparing for my Physiology exam: we thoroughly went over the contraction of a muscle, which was very helpful. We also went over major receptors that will be on the exam.
