Hello,
My name is Haley, I am 22 years old and am a former student at the University of Pikeville. I have 85 credit hours toward a biology degree with a specialization in animal science. I have completed all general education courses required from my private college, as well as the majority of science classes. Some classes include: biology, chemistry, zoology, genetics, physics, organic chemistry, ecology, and evolution. I am currently attending Penn Foster online for a veterinary technology degree. I have previous experience tutoring, as I was a college tutor at UPike. I tutored any student who needed guidance with reading/writing. I provide open ended questions to students to help them comprehend what they're studying, as well as engage in a variety of study techniques to prevent students from losing interest. The techniques I use depend solely on the student. I understand and encourage students to first discover their learning style, (whether they be a sensory learner, visual learner, or active learner). An example would be while I was tutoring at UPike, I would have work sheets and word games to help keep learning fun. I also advocate the use of technology and try to incorporate it into my lessons whenever possible. I encourage the student to generate ideas and hypothesis for themselves, while I provide the study material. I am very compassionate towards ALL students and understand that learning difficult material does not happen overnight. I intend to be patient and helpful, while at the same time providing structure and guidance when necessary.
