Hi, I'm Jacqueline! I received a B.A from Colby College in Government with history as a minor. I received a J.D. degree from Catholic University. After a career as an attorney, I pursued one of my life's goals to become a full time teacher.
I come from an extended family of educators. We share a lifelong passion for learning and teaching and instilling these passions to students.
I became a permanently certified 7-12th social studies teacher. In my 18 year secondary education teaching career, I taught 7th/8th grade U.S History, 11th grade U.S. History & Government, 12th grade Government, 12th grade Economics, and high school Criminal Justice. I also tutored in HS U.S. History & Gov't and Global/World History academic intervention classes and in 7th/8th ELA academic intervention classes. I also taught three yrs. of 9th grade English. I also coached a successful high school mock trial team for seven years. While a social studies teacher, I also became a successful adjunct college instructor for 20 years teaching Business Law I & II and paralegal law courses.
My philosophy is that learning is a lifelong process with many immediate and long term rewards. Education will enrich you in immeasurable ways. I've used a student-centered approach to teaching recognizing that there are different learning styles. I've emphasized reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Not being a "natural" standardized "test taker" does not mean that one cannot be successful academically with test-taking strategies. I am motivated to help students learn these strategies together with understanding their course curriculum better. Although I can help students in a variety of courses, my strengths are in U.S. History, Constitutional Law, Government, Business Law, HS Economics, Criminal Justice, together with reading, writing, critical thinking, and test taking skills.
