About Keiko

Bio

I am a native Japanese speaker and well experienced tutor for people who want to learn Japanese. My students give me a lot of courage and happiness when we have the lesson together. I appreciate it and I can obtain confidence for living in foreign country through the teaching as well.
I have the original method which the particles are the most important when nonnative speaker learns Japanese language. I am strict about the particles, but my lesson is cheerful and warm.

I also worked for 14 years as a manners teacher in Japan. I gave students one to one guidance and preparation for employment in Japan and I also trained new employees. I'd like to teach you about Japanese culture and customs together with Japanese language. I'm interested in teaching children, teenagers or adults...or all three! I will make lessons fun and easy.

I completed the Boat People Assistance Association training course for teaching Japanese to foreign people in 2002 and then I started to teach Japanese to Vietnamese, Laotian, and Cambodian people as a volunteer teacher in Japan from 2002 to 2005. I helped the expatriate students at the Japanese School in Amsterdam as an assistant teacher in the Saturday program from 2006 to 2009. In the US, I have taught Japanese as a professional tutor since 2012. In my lessons with children, I utilize cards, pictures, paper dolls, and a whiteboard. I provide original texts that I customize for every child. Some of the children I've taught had previously gone to Japanese schools but found it confusing because they couldn't understand what was going on the classroom. Now they love their Japanese lessons and tell me ‘I like speaking Japanese’. In my experience, adults wish to learn Japanese for a variety of different reasons. Preparing for a vacation or business trip in Japan is the most popular motivation. I have helped them plan where they want to visit and how to spend their time there and many wish to visit Japan again.

Enthusiastic and knowledgeable tutor.

Keiko-san has been great with my 4 year old son. She sings songs with him, helps him identify animals, body parts, colors and the Japanese alphabet. Within a week he has already learned so much! He loves his weekly lessons with her.
