I’m a native Italian speaker, graduated with honors from the University of Torino (Italy) with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts & Cinema and a Master’s degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia. I studied foreign languages at the University of Helsinki (Finland) for a year with the Erasmus program of my University. I’m a native Italian speaker, graduated with honors from the University of Torino (Italy) with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts & Cinema and a Master’s degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia. I studied foreign languages at the University of Helsinki (Finland) for a year with the Erasmus program of my University. I have a life long passion for the field of languages and an outstanding dedication for the one-on-one relationship I’m able to create with my students. I have been tutoring elementary, high school and college age students for many years, always with great results and satisfaction. I currently am a freelance tutor at the University of Georgia and I tutor adults, too.

I believe that patience and determination are keys to my teaching method. I like to encourage the students I work with to have precise goals, knowing that it takes time and exercise to learn and own a subject. I want the students to feel like I’m on their side, helping them find their own potential and strong points. Moreover, I wish to communicate to them a great passion for culture and education, which I believe beyond an academic achievement, it can also be a lot of fun. I believe that three of the main learning tools, especially in the field of languages, are comprehension, exercise and passion. It’s important that the student understands what we are talking about, not just boldly memorize it. If not, over time the student will forget important nuances and it will just create confusion later. Once understood the concepts, it’s important to exercise on them in order for the brain to grasp and absorb them. Last but not least, I believe that passion can play a big role in the game and I believe that I can share my passion with the students I work with mainly applying culture to real life.

I attended the Art, drawing, painting and graphic designs, High School "Pinot Gallizio" of Alba in Italy, where I learned all the different painting and drawing techniques (carboncino, oil colors, oil on canvas, pastels, pencils, watercolors, acrylics, etc.). I'm naturally very talented in all that concerns figurative Arts (which is one of the main corner stones of the Italian culture), and I always loved to communicate and share this passion and skills I have been gifted with. I believe that everyone with some training and exercise can improve his/her drawing or painting abilities in order to be able to express the inner self. I have organized drawing and painting group lessons with children, teenagers and adults, always with great results and satisfaction. I also have been tutoring one-on-one students, putting together project plans in order to practice a specific painting technique or a combination of multiple ones. My lessons are generally a combination of en plain air exercises, life reproductions and personal self expression.

Valerie is a fantastic teacher. She adjusted the lessons for my level. She targeted my grammar problems immediately. I speak the language but I didn't practice for a long time. Very helpful teacher!

We have a special need to understand the lyrics of "L'elisir d'amore" in Italian for our opera performance. It is very challenging because we do not have basic knowledge of Italian language, and the lyrics can be very old and poetic. Valerie has been very patient and helpful to make the lyrics very clear for us while giving us a nice guide to the Italian grammar. She is also very flexible and accommodative in arranging the lessons. We are so fortunate to come to know her for our Italian teacher!
