I have been a Special Educational Technician for the past 16 years working in Maine public school systems. For the past 10 years I have worked at Deering High School mostly with students with learning disabilities and/or on the autistic spectrum in regular classrooms. Most of the classes that I have assisted in have been math and science classes which is my background and my passion. I have a degree in Natural Science with a minor in Biology from the University of Southern Maine. I have also taken educational courses for Teacher Preparation through UNE. My experience in private tutoring has been helping a person pass the general math Praxis test.

What I most enjoy about working one on one with students is breaking down content into parts that are more accessible for their learning style. Many times by just working with a student and watching their thought processes around how they tackle material, I can identify where they are making mistakes - I call it "getting caught." From there, I can create new patterns for them to use and break the incorrect habits. Increasing students' confidence in their ability to learn, is another aspect of the learning process on which I focus. I believe that knowing how to do something and having the confidence of knowing how to do something are both important in the mastery of skills.
