Math Tutor (BS & MS in math), w/ perfect quant score on GMAT (total 96%, 1st official attempt), who knows how to study math and how to tutor to improve performance. When in high school, I participated various math competitions and won the prize, also won the district level training selection for international math Olympiad.

===

Math can be easy for everyone, and everyone can do well on math. The key is to master the definition.

My math tutoring is not only for the school work and exams, math skills with an emphasis on mastering the concept, but also focuses on the quality of thinking.

I gained tutoring experience and insights from helping my peers at school and from my side work as a math faculty at a college. Besides Algebra/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Statistics, Number Theory, Linear Programming, Set Theory, Graph Theory, Logic and Critical Thinking, and so on I teach at the college, one math course I teach is to help college students review high school math so to prepare them for college math. This special course is held for students who does NOT have a satisfied high school GPA. Students in this class have knowledge/skill gaps all over areas since elementary math - instructing them can be challenging and each term my class got an impressive passing rate. I hence learned a broad range of prospectives that students have on math, and I hence learned ways to help students who interpret math from various unexpected angles and help them successfully pass math exams.

I hope my tutoring make a long-term impact on my students—the study habits, the confidence, the love of learning.

I am a math major with BS and MS degrees. Here on WyzAnt, I have worked with multiple college/grad/MBA/after-grad students on econometrics, statistics, and data science (in addition to finance/investment, etc). On Business Statistics, an MBA core course audited at Univ of Chicago Booth (business school), my final exam got an almost perfect score, 172 on the scale of 178. Also, I am a math major, and have done projects on statistical regression and data mining, including topics on sample & population, estimating population estimators, properties of estimators (unbiased, consistency, efficiency, BLUE), residual analysis, Gauss-Markov assumptions, simple/multiple linear regression, logistic regression, OLS, hypothesis test, t-test, F-test, p-value, instrument variables, fixed effects, TSLS, model selection, model comparison, predicative models, classifications, KNN, Cluster, PCA, and so on. In addition, I took graduate level econometrics at Univ of Chicago, including topics (matrix forms) such as MLE, Bayesian Inference, lag operator calculus, unit roots testing, stochastic process, time series, GMM. And I have done intensive readings on academic papers on finance. Hope my background can help your study!
Finance,

Finance

Here on WyzAnt, I have worked with college/grad/MBA/PhD/SIE/FRM students and got 5-stars. Most of my tutoring here have been on finance (in addition to econometrics, data science, etc). For Finance, I tutor courses on fixed income, bond valuations, derivatives, derivatives pricing (futures, forward, option, swap, etc), portfolio management, investment, capital markets, risk management, and advanced topics on quant finance say factor modeling, asset pricing, continuous-time modeling, and so on. As a math major (with perfect quant score 51 on GMAT, 730, 96 percentile), I thoroughly studied John Hull’s book “ Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives“, as well as BKM’s “Investment”, both are text books at business schools, with John Hull’s even standard interview bible on Wall Street. I got an A on the final exam on Investment, MBA course at Univ of Chicago Booth (a class of hundreds of students from worldwide). The topics of the course include capital markets, fixed income, bond pricing, interest rates, spot rates, forward rates, foreign exchange rate, PV Present Value, NPV Net Present Value, DCF, CAPM, APT, minimum variance portfolio, efficient frontier, asset allocation/mean variance analysis, portfolio mathematics, no arbitrage, risk-neutral pricing, options, futures, and other derivatives, and so on. Additionally, I am interested in tutoring corporate finance and international finance. For Corporate Finance, I would like to help on time value of money, bond and bond valuations, risk and return, various interest rates, and more. For international finance, I would like to help on calculation related topics, say topics related to exchange rate, forward exchange rate, triangle arbitrage, covered interest rate arbitrage, foreign currency options, PPP, and perhaps more.      Beyond topics mentioned above, I am familiar with topics in Asset Pricing (PhD level course at Univ of Chicago), Math Models of Option Pricing, Monte Carlo simulation, Finite Difference methods, quantitative modeling in finance (say basic

Hence, I have deep understanding about GIS platform.
MATLAB,

MATLAB

Within days less than a week I immediately mastered MATLAB when one graduate course needed to use MATLAB to do the homework. I have used MATLAB in econ and econometric courses, including matrix methods on linear regression, quantitative model testing, MC simulation, plotting/graph, and so on. I actually prefer MATLAB to R, when the two are often used in similar fields; MATLAB is more reliable, hence more manageable and easier for people with no programming background. Prior to MATLAB I had intensive experience with Global Fortune 100 companies using various programming languages, which helped me to get on the right direction when mastered MATLAB. I would like to transfer my expertise to help your need.

I teach math at a college. My teaching emphasizes the “why” in addition to demonstrating steps to solve the math problems. I earned a perfect quant score on GMAT (total 96 percentile) on my first official attempt (GMAT is for MBA at business school, its quant section covers various math topics up to high school). Additionally, I am a math major (BS and MS degrees). My tutoring is not only for math study to do the school work and exams, math skills with an emphasis on mastering the concept, but also focuses on the quality of thinking. I am a math faculty at a college. Besides the Pre-Calculus (using ALEKS Pre-Calculus textbook), I also teach a math transition course to help college students review high school math (NROC) so to prepare them for college math. The transition course covers from Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals, to Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, Polynomials, System of Equations and Inequalities, Radical and Quadratic Equations, till Exponential and Logarithmic Functions. For math study, I strongly believe in a solid grasp on definitions, followed by working through proper examples. I am good at helping one learn thru solving problems. Particularly I am good at identifying where one misunderstands the definition. I find my approach balances both conceptual and practical knowledge, and helps students retain the material effectively. I pay particular attention to help students gain their confidence on math. My teaching varies by student. I am patient, and willing to learn about each student, and their specific backgrounds in the topics studied. I am interested in helping students to learn according to their appropriate level on math. With my education in math and my own solid grasp on math concepts, I am able to see how one math problem can be solved from multiple alternative ways, and hence adjust the way to explain the problem to the appropriate level right for the student. My goal is to help you build solid grasp on the concepts and eventually you gain confidence and skills to solve

My tutoring is not only for math study to do the school work and exams, math skills with an emphasis on mastering the concept, but also focuses on the quality of thinking. I am a math faculty at a college. Besides Algebra/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Statistics, Number Theory, Linear Programming, Set Theory, Graph Theory, Logic and Critical Thinking, I also teach a math transition course to help college students review high school math so to prepare them for college math. The transition course covers from Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals, to Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, Polynomials, System of Equations and Inequalities, Radical and Quadratic Equations, till Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, and more. With a math education, I have been well trained in logic, as well as from courses on automata theory. In addition, my over 15 years industry experience in software development has been full of logic, “and”, “or”, “not”, and so on. Particularly, I practiced LSAT, whose LR Logical Reasoning section is all about formal logic, a topic I have thoroughly studied and mastered. I am confident to help you on this area!

Statistics

I teach math including Statistics at a college. My teaching emphasizes the “why” in addition to demonstrating steps to solve the math problems. I have worked with multiple college/grad/MBA/after-grad students here on statistics, econometrics, and data science (in addition to other topics on finance/investment, etc), and got 5-stars. I have BS and MS degrees in math. Additionally, I took Business Statistics and Econometrics courses to work on applications of econ and finance, including quantitative finance, and financial modeling. On Business Statistics, MBA core course audited at Univ of Chicago (Booth business school), my final got an almost perfect score, 172 on the scale of 178. This course covered data analysis (plots, univariate, bivariate data, variance, standard deviation), probability theory (conditional, marginal, and joint distributions; covariance and correlation, various probability distributions of discrete and continuous variables: cdf, etc), statistical inference (confidence intervals, Chi-square, t distribution, p-value, hypothesis testing, etc), and regression. Also, as a math major, I have done projects on statistical regressions and data mining , including topics on sample & population, properties of estimator (BLUE), OLS, simple/multiple linear regression, hypothesis test, t-test, F-test, p-value, residual analysis, instrument variables, TSLS, model selection, model comparison, predicative models, classifications, KNN, Cluster, PCA, and so on. Additionally, I took graduate level econometrics at Univ of Chicago on more advanced topics on Statistics, say time series, GMM, etc. I look forward to working with you on Statistics, Econometrics.

I am good at helping on problems designed for 95% above. My tutoring is personalized and question-based. If you are already scoring above 165 and seek a tutoring, the tutoring on specific questions is effective to help you improve. I help you improve the performance and master the exam, from understanding each single official problem that you feel challenging. Accuracy comes first. Speed, and top score come naturally after a good understanding on the LSAT problems. If after checking the answer (and even after reading LSAC explanations for selected exams), or after explanations from other tutors, you still have questions, I am here to help. LSAT has a clear pattern. It is learnable, and it is my favorite standard exam to tutor. When preparing LSAT, I constantly scored above 97% on real LSAT (retired) exams. Having once thoroughly prepared for the exam, there is a great chance I understand why you make the mistake and where you stuck. LSAT needs patience, a hard work, a determination, a will to do well. Strategies come after the hard work, after a fairly good understanding on the problem. Eventually you will see that LSAT is so easy, and you just know where LSAC comes from, and for LR even if when you in the middle of a stimulus you have a sense what the Q-stem will ask you, and how the answer choices will be alike. LSAT can be easy. The journey reaching to this point is not an easy one. I am here to help and to guide you The benefit of having a tutor is the help customized just for you, and to have particularly your questions, your perspectives heard and accordingly addressed. I explain to you why the wrong answer is wrong, and why the correct one is correct — this is THE exact moment we learn and improve our skills. And I do such explanation all starting from YOUR thinking process and YOUR reasoning (and of course, well trained by LSAT, I understand your unspoken assumptions in your reasoning), so that you see the gap between your understanding and the correct answer choice. Even for one identical LSAT

patient and diligent tutor

Mary is an awesome tutor! She painstakingly went through each lecture slide of my professor and explained each piece so I could understand in layman’s terms. She was patient and prepped the slides ahead of time. She really knows a lot about econometrics not just the math but the interpretation as well. Thank you so so much for your time and effort and consideration; I will be coming back for more lessons!!

Mary is very helpful!

Mary was very helpful in providing alternative suggestions for the theoretical approach for my data science project for my Independent Study course for my Johns Hopkins University Applied Mathematics Masters program at short-notice. I was struggling with an upcoming deadline for. She was able to quickly respond and walk me through potential solutions for my project problem. I would recommend her for any graduate level applied mathematics and statistics coursework.

Data Analytics (RapidMiner Studio)

Mary was fantastic and a lifesaver. I had no idea how to use the software, and once she walked me through the process, I could confidently complete the assignment. She was available to answer my emails until I submitted the assignment. I call her my ANGEL!
