Proper enunciation and pronunciation of the English language is a skill that will prove hugely rewarding to students who work at it. My respect for English leads me to distinguish between "Long A" and "Short A" --- between "Long E" and "Short E" --- between "Hard C or G" and "Soft C or G" --- and on through the many subtleties and nuances our spoken language entails. I even remember from years ago the meaning of the "murmur dipthong". More recently a participation in Toastmasters has underscored the importance of phonics in the advancement of everyday life.
