I am a friendly, highly intelligent individual who loves working with students with learning needs. I currently work per diem as a substitute teacher with Three Rivers and Southern Oregon Ed Services Districts. I am endorsed in K-12 Special Ed and finalizing my studies for endorsement in Secondary Science Education. I am highly knowledgeable and proficient in biological sciences, earth and space sciences, basic chemistry, basic physics, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, nursing and health, algebra I and II, geometry, general math, and math applications. I use a steps-based, logical approach to problem-solving while providing visual and hands-on learning opportunities whenever possible. I work alongside the student while talking through the thinking and I ask questions that help guide the student's thinking to develop problem-solving and critical thinking for application of knowledge to the topic of study as well as to other subject areas.
Today's students must be able to apply the knowledge they gain to real-life problems, rather than just repeating back memorized (rote) information, in order to be functional, productive, and discerning adults. Standardized state tests evaluate students for both rote information and the ability to apply information and explain the reasoning behind the methods of application. Many college programs also require students to demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge gained and to explain their reasoning.
I have a vested interest in my students to provide them with opportunities for success in learning so they have the skills to be life-long learners and literate consumers in today's world.
