About Pierce

Bio

I have an MS in Computational and Applied Mathematics from the University of Chicago. I have been a tutor throughout college and grad school, from subjects like math and physics to business, Spanish, and music. I have also taught in the classroom to K-12 students.

I love tutoring because it shows students that they're capable of far more than they thought. I also just think it's fun.

Undergraduate GPA: 3.99
SAT Math: 780
SAT Verbal: 740
AP 5: Statistics, US History, European History,...

Data Science,

Data Science

I recently earned my MS in Computational and Applied Mathematics from UChicago, where we studied data science at the highest level. I have also completed data science research projects in industry as well as for personal entrepreneurial ventures.
MATLAB,

MATLAB

I have worked with MATLAB for a wide variety of applications throughout college and grad school. In fact, I completed most of my coding assignments in graduate classes, including Dynamical Systems, Nonlinear Optimization, and Monte Carlo Simulation, in MATLAB. I am deeply familiar with this language because I have been using it and teaching others how to use it for over 5 years.

Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

In addition to studying this topic in detail as part of my undergraduate and graduate studies in applied math, I have been tutoring the subject for over 4 years. It is an integral part of the undergraduate curriculum, and I believe my 3.99 GPA shows mastery of it.
Logic,

Logic

An expert mathematician must be an expert logician because logic is the backbone of mathematics. I have studied this subject intently for both my undergraduate and graduate applied math degrees, and because it is the most important aspect of the LSAT.

gives great explanations

I am comfortable with math but not with coding. Pierce broke everything down into simple steps so I could understand how to make the code follow what I could do “on paper”.

Pierce K.'s tutoring helped me when I needed it the most!

Pierce K. is, hand down, one of the best tutors I've worked with. I'm currently finishing my MBA and had some pretty challenging assignments involving Monte Carlo simulations in my Statistics/Quant class. While I understood the concepts pretty well, I was having a lot of difficult navigating my way around Excel and making sure I had all the right formulas in place. That's where Pierce came to my rescue. Not only did he get back to me within an hour of my submitting a request for tutoring help, he was able to pick up right where I was hitting my road block and navigate me to my end goal effortlessly. He provided thorough explanations every step of the way, providing the exact type of guidance I couldn't get from my stat prof. I appreciate that he took as much time as needed to address all my questions, and go above and beyond to make sure everything was wrapped up before ending our session together. Stat and Quant assignments don't need to be an uphill struggle, and Pierce showed me that. He is 5/5 in my book and I plan on hitting him up every time I need the assistance to perform at my best. Thank you so much, Pierce!

Knows his subject very well, very patient!

Would definitely use again, as someone with a limited arithmetic background, he was able to explain concepts that are easy for me to grasp.
