As a graduate of Cornell University I received instruction from top scholars in their field. Initially I majored in the fine arts program, and later transferred into the communication arts major. My background in art has strengthened my ability to integrate academics with the arts which allows me to reach various types of learners. During my twenty year teaching career I have taught all of the elementary grade levels in various subject areas, including art. I was also a reading specialist who selected the most effective reading programs and I provided intensive small group reading instruction. I am also proud that I had the opportunity to provide training and guidance to first year teachers within the New York City public school system while working as a mentor.
Although I have provided instruction in reading, writing, math, social studies, science, and art, I have a particular passion for integrating English language arts and visual art. I think it is extremely important to strengthen academic instruction with art. It is also important to use as many of the senses to gain a thorough understanding of the topic.
I have worked with students with learning challenges as well as students who were academically gifted. I am considered patient and receptive, which contributes to gaining self-confidence.
I try to be flexible with scheduling tutoring sessions and I try my best to make up for any missed ones. I use a 24 hour cancellation policy.
I am open to meeting at a mutually convenient location whether in Brooklyn or Manhattan.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you succeed in your educational career!
