For the ACT, we will go over content that you must know for English & Math. For ex, there are specific reasons when to use a comma. Most likely, you were never taught that. In order to improve your score on the English section, you must learn and study that content. We will work on specific strategies for the Reading and Science sections. Once you feel confident with that information, we will work on concepts such as time management, focus, endurance, and overall test taking skills.

For the SAT, we will follow a similar format; however, the tests are slightly different. We will focus on those areas of need to develop your skills to improve your confidence and score.

For the GRE, most adult learners have forgotten general math concepts as well as grammar rules/vocab. We will study this info. Because you want to go to graduate school, you will be motivated to study this material in order to get your Master's Degree.

I have a Bachelors in Psychology. I have 2 Masters. One is in HR/Training, and the other degree is a MBA.

I have many years of experience tutoring online and in person. I do not charge for cancellations if we work online. I also will reduce my hourly rate if you refer me other students such as your friends/family members/school acquaintances. I can go over this info more by email/phone.

I look forward to working with you.

I have taken many tests over the years. I had to balance work, family, and other issues in order to successfully pass these tests. I have 5 insurance designations which composed about 30 tests. I have 2 graduate degrees and a bachelor's degree. Over that time period, I took various tests in many subjects and successfully completed them. I have excellent time management skills and can help provide strategies to students to pass tests. It will include hard skills (math, science) and soft skills such as ways to approach tests, how to pick answers on multiple choice tests, how to write essay exams.

English

ACT English,

ACT English

We will go over comma rules (there are at least 6 you must know), semi-colons, colons, apostrophes, dashes, and hyphens. We will discuss strategies such as active voice, conciseness, word choice, vocabulary, tone, being specific, rhetoric, and other related concepts. We willl go over the structure of the English section.
ACT Reading,

First, I'll have you do a passage untimed as if it's a school assignment. Once I know your score on that passage, we will determine whether to focus on the time aspect of the test or general understanding. If it's the latter, then we'll go over methods to improve your reading ability. Once you feel confident with that, we'll discuss ways to focus on the timing. Once you feel confident with that, we'll focus on back-to-back passages, endurance, and being a careful reader.

I have a strong grasp of the English language in issues related to grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. I also continue to learn new languages so I can further see how they compare to English.

For many students, the challenge here is on older passages. You'll find one or two passages written prior to World War 2. Many students struggle on these passage types because of the way people used to speak and write back then. We will discuss how you can annotate these passages to improve your understanding. Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

If you don't like math or find it challenging, then you really need a confidence boost to help you get the score you want. In school, you probably are trying to get A's and B's on your tests. You can follow a similar process here, but you aim for a C+. What does that mean? Each test is difference, but if you can get about 47 of the 60 questions right, then you should be around the 29/30 score range for math. Can you get a C+ on this section? Of course you can!!! Nearly 40% of the test is pre-algebra/Algebra 1 type questions. You can get almost all of those right. You probably forgot it. The remaining part consists of Algebra 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry. If you're a junior, then you are currently taking this area of math or just recently did. There may be a few problems you don't know how to do on the test. That's ok, We need to work on your recall of prior sections and reduce your silly mistakes. It does take practice, but you can get there!!!

Some students find the Science section challenging. It's the last test, and many test takers are tired by then. I will show you how to do the chart/data parts of the test. All of my student have found it much easier and interesting compared to how they complete it now. There's another section that is very similar to a reading passage. We'll go over ways to organize your questions here to save you time, energy, and probably get more of the questions right.

Tutor with a focus on both content and testing techniques to help with ACT/SAT prep.

Michael has been wonderful to work with. He has been on time for every session we have scheduled and has helped me to recognize key elements in the reading and English portions standardize tests. He has a good way of explaining the content and with detailing tips/tricks to look for when answering standardized test questions. I certainly would recommend him to others who are looking to prepare for their SAT/ACT tests.

Seems knowledgeable and friendly

We had our first lesson with Michael today around ACT and he seemed pretty knowledgeable about it. He came across as friendly and humorous and I think we’d like to schedule more lessons with him in the future to prepare for the upcoming ACT.

Knowledgeable and specialized tutor

Micheal is very specific on subject matter which is important for teens. He identified areas needed improvement and worked on those with specific exercises and feedback. His tutoring style fits the very busy schedule of high school students. He took the time to learn about his student in first lesson which was helpful. We look for way working with him more.

Farida, 3 lessons with Michael

Excellent Tutor for Teens

Michael helped my 16 year old high school junior with an involved project for his English Honors course; breaking down concepts into digestible and retainable bites so my son was able to take the direction and retain it. My son really responded to his style which built instant credibility. We will be using Michael again for sure.

Very patient and knowledgeable tutor

Before This tutor , we have tried three other SAT tutors and never achieved any meaningful improvement. My son instantly enjoyed the first class offered by Michael and totally got the point . He has seen progress so obviously within a few classes. I would definitely recommend this tutor to anyone who is trying to get improvement on reading / writing score from around 600 to the 750+ Zone Before the test date. You will see big improvement within a few classes! Best SAT tutor money investment ever!!
