Hi! I'm Jaewoo. I'm a first year graduate trombone student at Indiana University. I have years of experience private teaching brass players and theory students of many ages, and I hope to help you or your child improve their playing and broaden their musical horizons! Hi! I'm Jaewoo. I'm a first year graduate trombone student at Indiana University. I have years of experience private teaching brass players and theory students of many ages, and I hope to help you or your child improve their playing and broaden their musical horizons! I was a drum major in high school, which meant I was responsible for leading almost 200 marching band members, teaching them how to march and play. Through this experience, I've learned how to communicate concepts to others, how to teach effectively, and how to help others fully understand their music. I hope to teach your child and apply these skills so that they can reach their full potential as musicians as well as human beings.

I am a proficient trombonist; I've won spots in the Hot Springs Music Festival, Round Top Music Festival, Texas Music Festival and Eastern Music Festival orchestras, and I've participated in numerous county and All-State honor bands. I was also the first alternate in the Southeast Trombone Symposium's Excerpts Competition in 2021, and I performed with the Honor Band of America in 2016. I've won my high school's concerto competition twice. I'm also a capable euphonium (baritone) player, and I have taught both trombone and euphonium to many different students. I also have extensive experience in music theory, as I passed the level 10 CM test for piano and received a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam, and I have hundreds of hours tutoring music theory students from high school through graduate school level already!

If you would like to set up lessons or ask me for further information, just shoot me a message! I am willing to do online lessons, and I can connect a high quality mic to my laptop so that the student can hear and imitate my sound. Thank you so much and hope to hear from you soon!

I recurved a 5 on the Ear Training section of the AP Music Theory Exam. I also passed the CM Level 10 Theory Test. In studying for these tests, I often helped my peers learn how to differentiate between confusing intervals and chords, helping them improve greatly. I also apply my ear training skills through arranging music by transcribing chords, rhythms and melodies by ear.

Extreamly helpful!

I was totally lost in my college music theory course and Jaewoo was able to break everything down step by step until I understood what to do. I watched tons of YouTube videos and read everything available online and still didn't understand, so I looked for a tutor and am super happy that I found him.

Very talented at his craft and tailors his lessons to your needs.

Jaewoo works very well to find techniques and various approaches to help me understand the music that I'm working with. He has broken the music down into sections that are easier to digest and play. I feel more confident after working with him.

In just one lesson, Jaewoo was able to re-spark an interest in the trombone for my son. He is extremely patient and knowledgeable. Additionally, Jaewoo is always happy to repeat his explanation behind the material he is teaching. My son really enjoyed learning from him and we look forward to continuing our instruction with him on a regular basis.

Knowledgeable tutor

My son is taking trombone lessons with Jaewoo. I love his style of teaching as he doesn't just command actions, he listens to provide feedback and gives my son suggestions on technique. The lesson is tailored to my son's specific needs. I am very happy with his services.

Kind, thorough deliberate teacher

Jaewoo has done a superb job thus far of reintroducing my son to trombone. The fact that he is able to do it over Zoom no less really speaks to his talent and dedication as a young teacher.
