As a former college English instructor, I have a great deal of experience and insight into various teaching methods for all different learners. Additionally, I have worked in the nationally recognized Bloomfield Hills High School, which is at the forefront of integrated learning techniques and a model for secondary schools across the country. My position within the Department of Special Education allowed me to worked directly with students with learning and physical disabilities ranging from Asperger's Syndrome to Attention Deficit Disorder.

I first began tutoring while in college over 25 years ago. Since then, I have worked with all age groups--elementary age to professionals-- in group and private sessions, with students who have both developmental and learning disabilities, foreign-speaking students, students preparing for exams and anyone looking for additional support or enrichment in both curricular and extra-curricular pursuits.

I am very patient and caring and personalize the tutoring sessions for each student. I find the best results occur when there is a feeling of trust and compatibility between myself and the learner, and I strive to make every session worthwhile, engaging and instructive. I am known for my calm and caring demeanor and always choose a positive and nurturing form of instruction. I promote a learning environment where questions are welcomed and encouraged, and the student can feel completely at ease. Most importantly, tutoring is my passion; and I put all my energy and focus into what I love to do.

I am a former college instructor and have previously tutored children in this age range in the general elementary curriculum for over 15 years. While I primarily was requested to work with children needing help in reading, I also worked in math and science support and enrichment. I use a variety of methods with children in this age range depending on the individual's learning style. I have engaged students who are tactile learners, some are auditory learners, some need to get up and move at times. Once I know their personal learning style, I can personalize their session for maximum effectiveness. I also try to keep it fun and engaging for young learners by offering a variety of learning tools: workbooks, games, computer drills, phonics, journal writing. I even include arts and crafts which incorporate math and reading skills to keep interest high and spark imagination. I truly enjoy all aspects of elementary education and, particularly, working with young children.

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

I have more than 10 years experience working with ADD/ADHD individuals. Most of my experience has been with elementary-age students who required special assistance because of the diagnosis. I have learned various techniques to help keep them engaged and focused, and I am a very calm and patient instructor. Much of my session is hands-on and allows a positive outlet for their energy. I also like to incorporate games, puzzles, art projects, computer time and other tactile lessons to keep them interested and learning. I currently tutor a 6-year-old recently diagnosed by ADD and have a great relationship with him and his family. I think it takes a very kind, caring and intuitive person to truly help individuals with this disorder. I feel I am one of the people, and I love seeing the positive results and the difference I've made.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I was employed by the Bloomfield Hills School District as a Paraeducator in the Special Education Department at the high school level. My job description included supporting special Education students in many capacities but primarily as academic support within the general education classes. I would often work in conjunction with the lead teacher to incorporate students into class and, when necessary, work with them outside the class or in small groups to complete homework, projects and tests. the majority of my students were had learning disabilities that ranged from Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD. Many students also fell within the autism spectrum and others suffered from more severe learning and physical disabilities which required individual attention.

For my daughter to tell me Alisa was the best tutor she's ever had speaks volumes. We are the pickiest people in the world (I admit that) and we LOVED her. She helped Danielle tremendously

A very pleasant, knowledgeable and patient tutor to have.

My daughter is picky about who her tutor is but she seems to like and enjoy Alisa's tutoring a lot! That goes to say something about the tutor.
