I hold an MBA with a focus in Public Accounting, and I am an active CPA. I worked in the accounting industry for 14 years; 8 years working as an auditor at public accounting companies ending as an audit supervisor, 3 years working as the controller for a real estate development company, and the remainder working independently doing freelance work. I have experience in all types of accounting work including audit, tax, internal controls, bookkeeping, and reporting. I am also a black belt and certified instructor in traditional Chinese Shaolin kung fu, and a purple belt in Brazilian Jujitsu.
While I hold no formal academic teaching certifications, I taught required training as an audit supervisor and continuously taught my staff how to get the work done and become capable of promotion. I also spearheaded revamping and implementing the company's on-boarding process to ensure new employees understood how the company operates and how they fit in, what knowledge they need and what resources they have to do their job, and to empower them to take ownership of their career. I also taught kung fu for about 10 years privately and in group classes. This helped me develop an understanding of how to teach people who have different capabilities, learning preferences, life experience, and goals. Martial arts, being a challenging physical practice also leads to insights about the connection between the physical body and the mental, emotional, and spiritual components, which can be leveraged in creating learning approaches that develop people more completely and in a balanced fashion.
My approach is to prioritize the information being taught is not only learned theoretically, but also can be used practically. While doing this I aim to provide insights on how each student can build a customized learning process that can be used to improve general capability, be applied in a broader sense to help understand life more clearly, and assist in determining how to navigate life as a whole.
