Hello! I'm Zach. I have been teaching English for 8 years and before that tutored college-level students while obtaining my BA in Modern Literature from University of California, Santa Cruz. I have obtained my MA in English Composition from San Francisco State University, as well as my Teaching Credential in English from California State University, East Bay. I currently possess a cleared California credential and have worked at both the high school and college level.
My first teaching position was at San Francisco State University. I have also taught college-level English courses at Los Medanos Community College and College of the Redwoods. After teaching at the college level, I began working with high school students at a high school in Northern California. At the level, I have taught everything from 9th grade English to 12th grade AP Literature and Composition. I also facilitated our school's Creative Writing Club.
I have worked in classroom settings, small group settings, and tutoring centers. Regardless of how many students I am teaching, I believe in student-driven learning. I like to ask questions so that students can practice critically thinking as they improve their reading and writing. I believe in helping students grow from wherever they are. Our goal during a tutoring session will be more than assignment completion; it will be for you to develop a better understanding of English overall. You should leave our session with more reading/writing knowledge than you came in with.
