I have loved history my entire life! The history of what or where doesn't matter particularly, but the concept of the past and its relationship to my present and future has fascinated me since I was a kid. History is questions asked and answered, clues lost and found. My job as a tutor is to help you find the clues, make the connections, and answer the questions from the past that influence your life today.

I graduated with a BS in Sociology from the University of Utah in 2001 and then took a long break to, you guessed it, raise my family. When the pandemic hit and schools shut down, I decided to join my kids for online school and enrolled in a master's program at Arizona State University. In August 2022, I graduated with a BA in World War II Studies, and I am looking to share everything I learned with anyone who will listen. Seriously, I have been working with kids (my own and several in the community) for years to help them understand history, and now I'd like to share and make it meaningful for you. I have tutored in US History, European History, Art History, Civil War History, Westward Expansion in the mid-19th-Century, Utah History, and World War II History. I have taught in classrooms, in small groups, at my dining room table, and even curled up with a stubborn child for a time or two. I have taught classes to older women and groups of retired men. I have also used my knowledge to educate the citizens of my town as necessity demands.
I believe in teaching history as a series of interconnected webs, starting from the center and working outward until one web intersects with another. What makes history and other disciplines that study human behavior interesting is the interdependence of common relationships and interactions. I think using this visual also allows students to find themes easier and see the overlap, in turn helping them to come up with "the main ideas." I have taught students ages 7-77 but generally, focus on the under-18 set.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
