I'm Natalie! I am a former elementary school principal and teacher. I was in education for 15 years and taught all subject areas in elementary as well as middle school Language Arts. I have a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts with a specialization in Literature. I hold a valid teaching and administrative credential.
My passion has always been helping students, and since taking some time to have my two toddlers, I decided to tutor to stay connected to helping students! I am an equity-driven educator, understanding that each student is different and needs different levels of support. I have 20 years of experience supporting students who just need a little extra practice, students with special needs, students needing acceleration, as well as students who are learning English as a second language. My approach to reading instruction is supported by the research-based principles of the Science of Reading - phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. My goal is to teach students how to read, develop a deeper level of comprehension, and ultimately, cultivate a love for reading and learning!
I started tutoring students before and during college; I tutored elementary, middle and high school students in reading, math, social studies, science, Algebra I, Algebra II. I have a range of teaching and engagement strategies to support all students and love learning about each student's individual strengths and how I can use their strengths and interests to help them excel!
I believe that parents are a child's first teacher and having a strong partnership with parents is a critical component to their success! You know your child best and I always welcome any resources or suggestions to help your child succeed. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
