I first fell in love with accounting in high school when I ran out of business electives (I am artistically and foreign-language challenged so those weren't options for me :) to take and excelled in the course.

I enjoyed the introduction enough that I decided to major in accounting in college however I had to wait till my sophomore year actually take those classes.

Fortunately, that first year, I landed an internship at a local tax firm and worked there part-time till I graduated. Often, I would learn a concept in class and apply it the next day at the firm (with real clients of mine) or vice versa. Truly, it was a very rewarding experience!

Since completing undergrad, I have worked in public accounting, both as an auditor and tax accountant, and in private accounting; currently I am employed as a Director of Finance & Accounting for a non-profit.

I completed a certificate in forensic accounting at NYU, have taken graduate courses towards a Master's degree in Accounting with a specialty in Forensic Accounting, and am planning to sit for the CPA exam in the near future. In past years, I have served as a volunteer tax preparer for the IRS VITA program.

I've always been career driven and never fear over interviewing. In college, I was president of the Accounting Society and in that position, I advised a lot of my fellow students on career options, their resumes, interviewing, and improving their job skills. Personally, I've changed jobs several times and always have an updated resume.

Roughly 10 years professional experience using many of the different versions of Quickbooks (online, multi-user, non-profit, etc). General professional and academic experience--I have a broad range of business experience and skills that I'm eager to share.

While in college, I served as the President of one of the student clubs on campus, the Accounting Society. One of my jobs as President was to liaison with hiring managers of local accounting firms and to assist fellow students in their efforts to land jobs in the accounting field. Because of this, I have prepared numerous resumes, interviewed numerous times, and have worked with many hr managers, learning valuable insight that I have applied to my own career. Now in the corporate world myself, I have been on both sides - I've changed jobs several times but have also, reviewed applications and interviewed job candidates. When instructing in the subject, the method I typically use is hands on: if the need is resume help, I like to have them write the content and then present it to me as if in an interview, usually errors and ideas for better, more substantive wording will come out. If a student needs help with interviews, I like to have mock interviews so that they gain confidence in "selling" their qualifications and experience.
