Hello! My name is Leah, but my friends call me Sulli!
I graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a double major in Mathematics and Writing, and the biggest difference in whether I thrived, or merely survived, in a class was if the professor was engaging and approachable. I often felt intimidated to ask what I feared were ‘dumb’ questions, and my favorite professors always encouraged students to feel comfortable asking anything.
I bring that same open and friendly nature to my tutoring sessions. I focus my lessons on specific student concerns, but if a subject feels too overwhelming to even start that small, that’s totally fine! I’ll work on a lesson plan that breaks topics down into manageable chunks and provides practice time to spot trouble areas.
My tutoring experience started in high school, where I taught other middle and high school students in our Peer Math Tutoring Club in 1-on-1 or small group sessions. Subjects ranged from pre-algebra to pre-calculus. In college, I worked as a TA for Differential Equations where I held office hours for homework help and led a recitation for additional practice problems. Meetings were online and in-person, and they ranged in size from one to ten students. I mostly tutor middle and high school subjects now, but if there is a higher level subject you need assistance on, just reach out and I’ll see what I can do!
I’m also available for essay tutoring; however, I want to be clear that I would be acting as a tutor, not an editor. I’d be working with you to improve your writing beyond just grammar/spelling. Our lessons would be more involved than taking your draft, editing it, and providing you with a clean copy.
I like to have the material the students are working with, so if you send scans/photos of the textbook/notes/essays before our lesson, I can better build a plan. I’m on Eastern Standard Time, but I’m happy to work around other time zones. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any additional questions!
