I have worked as a substitute teacher in the Wantagh School District for over five years teaching the following subjects: physical science, living environment, Italian, and pre-algebra. Privately, I have been tutoring SAT/ACT/GMAT students, middle and high school students in chemistry, algebra, living environment and elementary school students in math.

The parents of the students that I have worked with have been pleased with the one to one attention that I have given their children and with the results. I personalize my instruction to the students' interests to make the subject matter more relevant to their point of reference.

I am passionate about learning and enjoy when the individuals pick up on this enthusiasm and revisit the subject matter we are studying with a new perspective.

Italian,

Italian

I learned Italian while I was going to school in Italy. It was a total immersion course. Even though, there were those who spoke English, I tried to speak only Italian by going to the movies, watching television, sitting in the park and listening to the Italians speaking. I practiced doing crossword puzzles in Italian, reading children's books in Italian and later on more advanced literature as well as medical books in Italian. I did grammar exercises and took Italian lessons. I still read Italian newspapers, listen to Italian programs and still speak Italian.

In the course of my academic studies, I have learned how to take a subject and break it down into its smaller components. I have found that it is easier to learn a more complex topic when the fundamentals are more secure. I am a firm believer in the use of a calendar to prioritize events which then helps in time management. I also work on goal setting and categorizing them according to short term, medium term and long term goals and then what has to be done to achieve these goals. Therefore, I use a calendar for mapping out academic work in order of due date, the work involved and goal settings to help the individual focus on what they want to do and how they can go about achieving their goals.

Addressed an urgent need

Mona was so responsive to our situation. My daughter waited until 3 weeks before the end of a semester to tell us she was overwhelmed in Chemistry and at risk of not passing the class. We were looking for a tutor who could step in quickly and work with her multiple times a week until her final exam. My daughter was feeling more confident after just one session with Mona. Mona was so supportive and patient in helping her to prepare for her exam. Thank you Mona!!

Amazing tutor!

Mona has been working with my sophomore for some time now on Algebra work. She has been, in a word....phenomenal. She is a great communicator of the material, but also of making sure our daughter is understanding things and that she is comfortable with her style, pace, etc. If you are in need of an Algebra tutor (or other subjects that she has listed in her profile) I unequivocally and highly recommend Mona.
