A former middle and high school English teacher, I am passionate about helping students gain confidence as readers and writers.
About Me: I received my bachelor's degree in English from Cornell University and my master's degree in Secondary English Education from Vanderbilt University. As an undergraduate, I immersed myself in the world of literature, reading and analyzing the work of literary giants while also honing my own writing craft. In graduate school, I learned about the latest research in education, and I apply these reading and writing strategies as a teacher and tutor.
For Writers: I specialize in supporting students through the writing process, whether it's a creative writing assignment, expository essay, or college application essay. I offer a number of brainstorming techniques for ideation, make use of graphic organizers and writing templates to support organization, and provide strategies to master the revising/editing process. When it comes to college applications, I can help you find the heart and spine of your essay.
For Readers: Do you find yourself reading the same page over and over again? Do you finish reading a chapter and realize you don't know what you read? Are you struggling to track and identify the theme in a story? I can help! With dozens of reading strategies in my back pocket, I can tailor a reading plan to fit your needs.
In every tutoring session, I aim to help students connect their own experiences and understandings to their learning, allowing each new skill to build on their existing foundations. I fundamentally believe that every single student can learn and grow, and I encourage my students to develop a growth mindset.
Let's get to work!
