Hi, I'm Hailey! I have been a K-5 reading and math for almost 5 years, but my passion is teaching remedial reading to littles K-2. Reading is the most important subject, and I love seeing the growth and confidence of students as they learn to love reading. After graduating with my Bachelor's from Bethel University at 19, I started tutoring by volunteering for a year with Reading Partners in the Minneapolis area. I later gained my English Language Tutor certification from the MN Literacy Council. I went on to become a private reading and math tutor for K-2. More recently, I was a K-5 tutor for Best Brains and, after, Varsity Tutors.
I specialize in K-2 remedial reading, and approximately 1 in 5 students will need extra practice with these essential reading skills. I assess each student for their mastery of the foundations such as phonemic awareness, blending, automaticity, and reading comprehension, and I will personally follow up with my observations and plan. I use research-based curriculum, activities, lessons, books, and teaching techniques to improve student reading in as little as a few months depending on the student. The key to working with littles is building a strong relationship, and I do this with games, conversation, and listening skills. I will always take the time to listen to your child and design lessons that they will want to come to every week.
I know working on the computer can be tough for little, so I have developed management skills to help students of all energy levels and learning styles succeed online. If you have any concerns with this, please reach out so we can make a plan for ensuring their success.
I am always here as a partner and resource for parents, and I encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I am easy to reach and respond quickly. Feel free to contact me if your student is struggling with reading in any way, if you have questions for me, or want to schedule a lesson.
