Hello! My name is Taylor and I'm a fifth-year Ph.D. student in Organic Chemistry at Utah State University. I decided to pursue my doctorate after graduating with a Bachelor's in Biochemistry due to my love for organic chemistry research. I'm the product of truly caring professors who chose to pursue careers in academia to exclusively teach, instead of focusing mainly on research. Hello! My name is Taylor and I'm a fifth-year Ph.D. student in Organic Chemistry at Utah State University. I decided to pursue my doctorate after graduating with a Bachelor's in Biochemistry due to my love for organic chemistry research. I'm the product of truly caring professors who chose to pursue careers in academia to exclusively teach, instead of focusing mainly on research. What that provided for me were professors who had a full-time focus on teaching, tutoring, and mentoring. This gave me a unique perspective on teaching and tutoring since I've been exposed to professionals who refined and honed their methods over many years of lecturing. With that, I've also seen how different methods of teaching work for various types of students, so I will be effective in tutoring regardless of the student's learning style. One last thing, I know exactly how it feels to not understand when first learning Chemistry; I have been in your shoes!

I have experience tutoring at the high school/college/graduate level (Yes, even graduate students need help sometimes! I myself seek the help of students in other disciplines of Chemistry if I don't initially understand a concept.) and experience teaching at the college level. I've taught General Chemistry and specialize in Organic Chemistry for my research, so I can tutor in both areas. I have a large personal library of textbooks I can pull questions from for extra practice.

I've been exposed to this material for over ten years and have been reading, learning, and developing cutting-edge chemistry for nearly five.

I currently perform novel research in organic chemistry. Specifically, my lab develops molecules to be used as probes for the biological role of carbon monoxide. We do this by synthesizing many molecules that when are triggered, either by light, heat, other small molecules, or enzymes, release carbon monoxide. I utilize the basic concepts taught in undergraduate Organic Chemistry each and every day to help me develop ideas for new molecules.

Very Knowledgeable and Helpful!

I was struggling with synthesis and retrosynthesis but Taylor was able to help me understand how the process works. He was able to come down to an OChem 1 level of knowledge and help me understand what I'm struggling with. I struggled with mainly the mechanisms and what would follow, but Taylor was able to draw it out and show me if I ever seemed confused. Additionally, it seems he enjoys a challenge because he was a tutor who preferred to look at the problem and work it out prior to taking a look at the answer, even if we did get stuck. I'll definitely be looking to book more lessons in the future!
